The following article contains the official citation for Flying Officer Art Menaul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Menaul, 38 Victoria Ave. N., in connection with the award to him of recent date of the D.F.C.


F|O Menaul is the former assistant to the Credit Manager of the Allen and Hanbury Co. Ltd., here.


It will be noted that the citation is given jointly with his navigator, F|O Tomes:


F|O MENAUL F|O Tomes: As pilot and navigator respectively these officers have completed a very large number of sorties and have displayed great skill, courage, and co-operation. In September 1944 they participated in an attack on an enemy shipping convoy off Kristiansand. During the attack the starboard propeller and the pilot’s windscreen were damaged by anti-aircraft fire. In the action F|O Menaul had been hit, a fact unrealized until the return for home was made. F|O Tomes promptly rendered efficient first aid and afterward gave valuable assistance to his pilot in his endeavor to reach base. After bring his aircraft down safely, F|O Menaul collapsed. He had displayed great courage and fortitude. F|O Tomes also proved himself a valiant member of aircraft crew, setting a fine example of coolness and determination.
