Menaul, A.

Several months ago Flying Officer Art. Menaul, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Menaul, 38 Victoria Ave., was mentioned in despatches and headlined in several newspapers following an exciting exploit in which the young officer showed exceptional daring and presence of mind. Many friends in Lindsay will be pleased to learn that he has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Mrs. Kenneth Western, of Lindsay, has received three letters from her brother.

In one of the letters he relates that he has had one of his arms and his shoulder injured as a result of being hit by flying shrapnel, but he doesn’t state which arm was hurt. He related that he was out of the hospital when he wrote and was on a 14-day leave. He was expecting at that time to return to his unit when his leave was up.

GO Menaul was well-known in Lindsay, having been for four years associated with the Allen & Hanbury Co. Ltd., in Lindsay, as assistant to the credit manager in the office of that company. Mr. Macaulay, manager of Allan & Hanbury’s stated that FO Menaul was a member of the Canadian Credit Institute while in the employ of the Company.

Enlisting in September of 1941, FO Menaul went overseas in 1942 and has served, as his recent achievement will testify, valiantly with the Air Force.
