Fenelon Falls man tends Monty when plane crashes Following injuries which he received when his plane crashed into a tree near Oldenburg, Germany, while landing preparatory to attending an inspection of Canadians in this German centre Field Marshall Montgomery was rendered first aid by the staff of No. 16 Canadian General Hospital. Included among those who assisted in attending the injured Marshall was Capt. G.C. Johnstone of Fenelon Falls.
Despite his injuries Field Marshall Montgomery did not call off his scheduled visit. Rather he went on after he had received first aid, inspected the troops which were assembled, made several presentations of medals and returned to the hospital where he was given a more complete examination.
He sustained contusions of the left ankle and right hand, as well as a back injury. His pilot escaped unscathed in the mishap.
