Baldwin has won the Canadian Open Greyhound Cham pionship after his dog Appraiser had the fastest time in the final heat last- weekend in Baldwin Appraiser turned in a time in the 250 yard oval run at Spot Motel in Baldwin last Sunday to win the Championship Another of Archies greyhounds Celtic Luck came third in the final beat Archie was rewarded with the Canadian Open Greyhound Cham pionship trophy and money Lassie owned by Mel Preston was third in the final heat and Fallon owned by Archie Mcllveen placed fourth Archie had three dogs in the final heat after he won first and second places in the first heat second and third in the second heat second in the fourth heat and two more of his greyhound placed first and second in the final heat before the championship run His greyhound that won the race in the final heat Appraiser also won the Ontario Hurdle Championship held the weekend before at Spot Motel in Baldwin The father or sire of Appraiser was a derby winner and an inaugural winner who broke the track record at Southland Greyhound Race Track in the United States in his day said Archies wife Clara The dog that placed second in the cham pionship meet Lassie also had the same sire as Appraiser The Intermediate D Hockey League got underway last week with several games being played On Friday October 21st the league staged its kick off game with the Keswick Cordobas last years Champions playir against an Allstar Team made up from the teams A good crowd was present to see some of the talent that will again be playing hockey in both Sutton and Keswick arenas There are five teams that will be competing against each other to capture this years cup are the Keswick Cordobas Alices Bears Bill Warrens Bandits Sutton Legion and Sutton Flyers Good luck to the teams and to Stewart and his Executive Ringette has been a popular sport all across On tario as well as in Georgina Roy and Doug Payne have already been planning this years program and registration will be taking place within the next few weeks So girls get your skates and sticks ready for At the present we are looking for adults who will supervise at the Public Skating events at both arenas If you are interested please give me a call The Keswick Lions Club have been decorating the downtown area of Keswick with park benches It certainly is welcomed by the community and hopefully they will not be destroyed by vandals At the same time we should not forget to mention some of the other community groups and projects The Kinsmen in Keswick are busily constructing a Par- ticlpark on the grounds beside the Keswick Arena The is a fitness trail with eleven different stations Steve Director of Community Ser vices has already challenged me to a test on the course More on that later The Keswick Optimists also benefit different groups In the area They the Rod and Gun Club Archery Club and help sponsor various youth activities like hockey baseball etc three groups certainly are very important in community work and they deserve your support The Family Life Centre will have a new director On Halloween Day Pat will take over the reins from Mr Ed Meade who has left this Township to go to the Markham area Sorry to see Mr Meade go however we wish him all the best The Chamber of Commerce held a meeting with the tourist operators ie marina owners fishing guides to discover how to improve what we have around here to attract a little bit more The Chamber certainly have the expertise now to develop Georgina tourist industry Lets hope everyone supports the Chamber and their goals The Yoga and Relaxation classes at Belhaven Hall Thursday nights have turned out to be quite successful A new program we are considering is a yoga class for children aged five to twelve years It is not definite
