CROWD DOWN BUT FUN DOESNT DIMINISH 52nd annual Mount Albert Sports By VIOLA MOUNT ALBERT Sunny skies prevailed for Mount Alberts Sports Day Although attendance was down slightly from last year the cries of glee from the midway were proof the enthusiasm of visitors had not lessened The skating rink area was full of activity from early morning until pm with a rodeo followed by a Calf Show then a Horse Pull A ball Tournament kept a rapt audience from morning until evening If the sun proved too much one had only to go to the shade of trees in the front area of the park and try a hand at fishing The fish were real and the lucky angler got to take home his catch Rest for those aching feet could be had in lower 4 level of the hall where free movies were being shown by the East Gwillimbury Library Board A feature of these movies was a film on some previous Mount Albert Sports Days GIANT PARADE At midday a giant parade wound its way through he village and the bands drum majorettes siren and whistles gave the day a fairlike atmosphere It was difficult to decide which activity demanded me greatest audience At suppertime lines formed at the hall for a meal of home cooking Entertainment on the tennis court was followed by two dances one in the hall and a teenage dance on the court BALL TOURNAMENT The ball tournament ended with the Scarbrims from Scarboro taking Queensville with a win Gladys Rolling presented the team with the Gladys Rolling Trophy was second and Robin Lee Sports third CALF SHOW The Calf Show has become an annual event at Mount Albert Sports Day and this year there were seven dubs represented Sutton King two from Sharon and two from Big winners were Stouffville Club members from the Markham club with Randy Grant the Senior Beef Showmanship Champion Jan King had the champion junior dairy calf while Cathy and Brian OConner were champions for showmanship in the junior and senior dairy classes respectively The champion beef steer was shown by David of Sutton HORSE PULL The horse pull had such an enthusiastic crowd watching that some of the spectators found it hard to refrain from urging their favorites on sometimes to the confusion of the teams As draw by draw went by the seemingly impossible pull was made until the final two teams remained for the final pull The winning team was apparently a winning choice with most of the audience Mr of Mind en was
