for school children of the region hss a special significance So Wednesday according to York Humane Guild President Phil Benson white young poster artists received their prizes and ribbons the real gratification of the evening went to the hard working members For that one evening of the year she told The Era we know that at least young people in the region and probably their families have got the message and do care enough to make a con crete effort She went on to stress that humane work can be a thankless and often heartbreaking task in these days of derogatory headlines local govern ments who she claims seem to place cheap animal control above animal welfare and a vast section of the population seemingly indifferent to animal suffering Education of our young people often seems the only hope and Humand Guild members place a priority on it Putting forth a year- round effort they take their message to the classrooms and clubs of Die region With the proposed addition of a portable building to the Aurora Shelter members now anticipate expansion of the program Members say they feel great sadness that funds are readily available for just about any neighborhood sports team but we cant scrape together the funds to humanely with the stray cats and bred through our own re gleet and indifference That continued Mrs Benson is why this evening with the kids is so refreshing And from the subject material dealt with in the young peoples posters the Guild members take heart With kids like this coming along things can only get better she says Dr Ian Gtenroy new president of
