reality if York Region Childrens Aid Societys proposed budget remains intact The proposed program is one of six new ventures in the societys million draft budget While CAS executive director DC Van Camp said Friday hes optimis tic that the program will be approved the halfway house proposal has been deleted from two previous budgets First proposed two years ago the venture was one of the last items to be cut from the budget Last year it was just quashed n ceremoniously noted Mr Van Camp Although the region has set its sights on a budget this Mr Van Camp is optimistic that theres hope the agencys six new programs can gain ap proval Since the province has announced that it will incorporate all childrens services under one ministry the CAS executive director said there are new op portunities for the proposed program The initial proposed budget for the halfway house is half the projected annual operating costs If approved the program will start in July Staff will include a fulltime house mother volunteer handymen and drivers and a CAS social worker responsible for overall coordination of the therapeutic program In addition social workers of girls admitted to the house will continue to play an active role in the cases according to a report prepared on the program The halfway house said Mr Van Camp will enable some young mothers who might give UNWED MOTHERS NOT JUST ANOTHER STORY One In a up their children because they cant adjust to the new world of motherhood to keep their babies One of the biggest problems is how they can pay the rent and buy food on mothers Include holding facilities for runaway children therapy frograms for youngsters group homes a mothers relief babysitting program and independent living program for CAS wards without parents and a day
