I Letters to the editor Council must planned gokart track Citizens in the community of Belhaven are shocked The reason the untimely proposed professional track for the fifth con cession north of This proposed development includes a large professional track designed to cater to races even on an international scale Presently before council this project could result in the areas total environmental degradation socially morally aesthetically I wish to comment as a citizen as a farmer and as a geographer en vironmental scientist The area is a highly respectable working community with a strong agricultural base The first settlers brought the work ethic it has been reinforced and still remains Sunday is the only day of rest and relaxation for many of these citizens the day on which this project would create the greatest mayhem Developments of this nature attract among others the undesirable human element resulting in severe local problems The track and surroun ding areas could form a nucleus for alcohol drugs and promiscuity Parents attempting to provide a proper upbringing for their sons and daughters have every right to be gravely concerned Noise the most dangerous and insidious form of pollution will be over present It is medically proven that noise produces higher blood pressure restricted stomach muscles ner vous breakdowns hearing disabilities and less efficient work habits to name only a few More noise and greater danger for citizens will emanate from the large traffic flow to and from the races I have complete confidence that no land owner fully realizing he potential disastrous effects of this proposal would knowingly place pecuniary gain before social consciousness and community wellbeing It is for such proposals that intelligent council representatives are elected to protect sencere hardworking citizens from obnoxious developments and greedy On the other hand it is councils responsibility to promote developments which will be compatible with the customs and social mores which in this township have endured for more than a century The area already possesses a well- managed and respectable track operated by William Dickey It is here that the areas young people can go if they wish to have some enjoyment What this Community Bowl for a Boy great success I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Bow for a Boy Committee of Big illness degenerative disease and the latest trend a lowering life expectancy for mature adults have resulted Consequently a community requites stability slow change change beneficial for individuals In reality when a development is proposed the onus must be on the developer to prove that no ill effects will result for the life style of a community As our representative it is councils duty to see that our lives are protected and that our foot is not amputated to decide whether it will hurt This proposal must be derailed The Era Newmarket Aurora Keswick Wed March 9 No RC school in sight board its taken two years to complete the first phase of the project which is expected to yield only five separate school students he reported On that timetable said Mr a separate school Isnt expected to be needed for at least five years Discussion of the school arose after the committee was told of negotiations between the board and King Township on the possible swapping of a school site in the subdivision Located north of the King Sideroad the original 10acre school site is in the centre of the subdivision The townships concern said Mr was that buses transporting students to the school will have to travel along residential streets King proposed an alternative site adjacent to commercial property The second site has a poorer contour than the first site noted the planning and assessment officer adding Were not that keen on having a school site adjacent to a commercial site Since the original discussion the township has agreed to keep the school site in its original location but has asked the board tocooperate in any future routing of buses Mr told committee Time to holt he soys on the council what is We depend wisdom of our members to do right JOHN HORNER Sutton West With reference to your news item school taxes to increase 43 I wish to register my complaint about high school taxes We have all wit nessed the unbridled spending by school boards headed up by overpaid and un derworked chairmen and or deputies As a with receipted tax bills dating back over years I feel it is time to call a halt Property owners like myself are the captive victims of the school tax
