KESWICK Teams from Sharon and Bradford have apparently found the key to hockey success and they displayed it here Sunday The key is not in scoring goals but in preventing them as the Sharon Novices and Peewees and the Bradford Bantams proved by winning the division championships of the Keswick Little NHL Hockey Tournament The Sharon Novices allowed only one goal in two games the Peewees yielded one goal in three matches and Bradford Bantams didnt allow any goals in two games Sharon blanked Keswick 60 in the championship game to win the atom title while the Sharon Peewees won their division beating Bradford in the final game Bradford won the bantam crown by blanking Keswick 20 in the final game Bolton won consolation title in all three divisions Keswick got off to a bad start and never recovered in the atom final The host club fell behind after only nine seconds had been played when Roger Gwilliams scored for Sharon Darryl made it 30 with goals at and and the winners went ahead 50 in the second period on goals by John Kitching and Gwilliams added the sixth goal late in the final period Jody Gibson had two assists while Craig Walker Mark and Darryl each had one Sharon advanced to the atom final by defeating Bolton and 21 had two goals and an assist to pace Sharon to its firstround win over Bolton Gibson Geoff Boseley and Gwilliams each scored once Gwilliams Philip Cameron and Timmy Kcarns had two assists apiece while Boseley earned one In the second round Sharon needed a goal by Gwilliams with seconds to play in the game to edge Darrell had the other Sharon goal Kearns assisted on both goals and helped out on Gwilliams marker The win moved Sharon into the championship game against Keswick The Keswick atoms needed only one win to advance to the final and they got it by bombing Aurora 102 Tony Forsyth led Keswick with three goals and five assists Darrin Myers and Mark Vine each scored twice while Steve Lee Paul and Mike notched one goal apiece Terry Crate earned two assists and Chris Beelik Menton Vine Myers Jim Van and Ron Green had one apiece Keswick then got a bye into the final In the peewee division Sharon opened with a 10 win over Bolton Todd Harvey scored the goal midway through the second period and Kevin and Bruce Cullingham assisted Sharon received a bye into the final and then defeated Bradford Todd Harvey led the way with two goals and two assists and Ken Ellis Jerry Ash and Bruce each scored once Wayne Eves and each had two assists and Ash had one Bradford beat and Aurora 50 to advance to the final Aurora had won its first game defeating Keswick 50 Keswick then went to the con solation side and lost again 31 to Richvale Larry Walker notched j it the only Keswick goal with an assist from Shawn In the bantam final Brad ford took a lead on a goal by Laurie Roberts early in the second period after a scoreless opening frame At 257 of the third Danny Wilson added an insurance marker for Bradford The Bradford and Keswick bantam teams have met times this season in and tournament play and Bradford boasts a record of four wins and a tie This looks like the night that Keswick ends the streak a father of one of the Keswick players said prior to the start of the game but obviously it wasnt Keswick had defeated Aurora 81 and Sharon to get into the bantam final Jeff Evans Mike Sedore and Mike Collins had two goals and one was a tough one for the Bradford squad In its first game Bradford needed a goal with less than five minutes left to play to edge Keswick 5 The champions then lied Unionvillc in the next round but were awarded the win for scoring the games first goal and advanced to semifinal against Sharon The Sharon game was scoreless through three periods and was finally decided in overtime on a goal by Kevin Carlisle at Carlisles marker put Bradford into championship game against Bolton Bolton opened with a win over then edged past Alliston 7 before tying 2 2 Bolton scored first in that game and therefore ad vanced to the final Before meeting Bradford for the grand championship Port Perry defeated Whitby 3 I in the consolation final The Port Perry club had lost 1 to in its first game then boat and Little Britain 0 Sharon and Newmarket novice teams both advanced to the semifinals Sharon on championship side Newmarket in consolation play before being eliminated Newmarket met Markham in the tournaments opening game and lost when Kyle MacLeod scored on a rebound wilh only 15 seconds left in the game Newmarket scored the first goal and would have won the game had it remained tied Tom Hurst and Chris scored for Newmarket Joe drew two assists and Scott earned one Newmarket went on to meet and after falling behind came back to score four unanswered goals Chris Brown Robert and Hurst scored
