attending councils inaugural session at East Gwillimbury Centre here And if Patricia Donna Richard and Mariene anticipate a heavier workload on the home front because of their dads new responsibilities it hasnt materialized yet The four handsome redhaired Morton youngsters confirmed this for The Era with affectionate glances towards their cither who had just been sworn in as mayor I guess he was anxious to get here early said Patricia the eldest Anyway he did all the chores for us After receiving the chain of office from retiring Mayor Gladys Rolling who has devoted years to municipal politics seven at the- helm in East Gwillimbury Mayor Morton stressed that he felt very standing before you as your mayor and regional representative The turnout at the polls was tremendous the municipality made my job a lot easier he said Noting her neverending list of accomplishments he singled out two town status for East and the Neighbourhood Improvement Program Everyone is proud of you said Mr Hopkins i staff is proud of you the residents are proud of you I have yet to hear of anyone who does not think you are a grand lady Presentation of the gavel to Mayor Rolling was a series of East Gwillim roads are below standards according to a report presented to council Completed late last year the study examines the quality roads throughout the township and plots construction needs now and over a five to ten- year period The study cites level crossings on Herald east of the Seventh Concession St at the southern entrance to Holland Landing the East Townline south of Rd the Second Concession north of and Green Lane east of the Second Concession as deficient and in need of recon struction East Gwillimbury engineer Jim said the study anticipates needs in advance and in determining deficient roads uses new higher Ministry of Trans portation standards If we had unlimited funds to spend thats what has to be done he said of the studys findings Although the study lists more than a dozen roads in heed of major work currently East Gwillimbury roads are up to the standards of other municipalities the engineer added According to the MTC were no different than any other municipality he noted By setting the higher standard the ministry is encouraging munici palities to spend more on road con struction than is available through the 50 percent subsidy from the province explained Mr East Gwillimbury has always devoted a higher portion of its budget to roads main tenance he said According to the study one road that should receive a portion of that budget this year is the Second Concession from the Mount Albert to Newmarkets town limits A new base and surface for that portion of the road is an immediate need the study shows The portion of the Second from Mount Albert to Doane will be deficient in one to five years and will then need resurfacing and widening From to the Second Concession needs resurfacing and widening now while the Second from to needs widening and installation of a new base now On Holborn Rd theres an immediate need for a new base and surface from the Second Concession to Leslie St and resurfacing and widening from Leslie to Woodbine Ave The Fifth Concession is slated for a complete reconstruction from Davis Dr to while the portion from to will be deficient in six to years and will need a new base and surface Within one to five years the Fifth Con cession from to Holborn will also need a new base and surface while the same work is currently needed along the portion of the road from to In six to ten years a new base and surface will be needed for the Fifth Concession from to the In Holland Landing all old village roads north of the Mount Albert Rd are deemed deficient according to the Ea3t GwiUimbury
