TOWN MANAGER aims to overhaul administration NEWMARKET One of Mayor- elect Bob first jobs this month will be to seek advice about the towns administration- He will consult with Provincial Government officials to determine whether or not Newmarket should have a town manager Mr will also seek ad vice regarding the responsibilities and duties of the town clerk and his staff and whether or not additional staff is required By doing this I dont wish to imply in the slightest any dissatisfac tion with the present staff said Mr Forhan But we will soon have a lar ger area and more population to ad minister it may be that such a position as a town manager would be more advantageous will be going to Queens Park with Regional Councillor Ray Twin- soon to discuss this and other aspects of municipal administration They have the facts and figures down there and I can apply them to New market In a postelection interview with The Era Mr Forhan said that the top priority facing him when he takes office is to improve Newmarkets water problems Mr Forhan pointed out that Newmarket presently has a well cap able of supplying the watershort east part of town and any reasonable de velopment in that area We have the water in the ground but it will cost us more than to construct a tower and install pipe he said Water services will be a Re gional Council responsibility after Jan and it just depends on which municipality has the top priority But our needs are well known throughout the Region and I feel that we will be well up on the list so that we can improve an already poor situation and provide water for future development On the appointment of Garfield Wright as Regional Chairman and Jack as chief administrator Mr said Give them a chance They are just new at a difficult job the same as we Regional Coun- But we can accomplish much more much faster if we all work in harmony said Mr Forhan On Newmarkets future develop ment he said that the main develop ment should go to the north where the services are He felt the vacant area within the town limits should be developed first with some emphasis placed on the Sidcroad area We shouldnt hop across Street until there are services there said Mr Forhan Planning will be a five muni cipality project for this area with Newmarket at the centre said Mr Forhan The Planning Committees the five councils should get together and submit a joint proposal for the area to the Regional Planning Board he suggested We must sit down with East Gwiliimbury King and Aurora to see what they want to do with the lands touching Newmarkets candidates or an agent may be present It is up to the judge to deter Mr Taylor defeated Mr 24 votes to 23 in what was form erly King Township and to in what was Whitchurch Eagle Hills went overwhelming ly for Mr Taylor as did the voters in the east end of Newmarket But it was in East Heights and the Del subdivi sion north of Davis Dr where Mr rolled to victory It was in these two areas where the highest percentage of votes were cast and in these two area where Mr Twinney polled votes to Mr Taylors In the mayoralty race Mayor- elect won of the polling subdivisions Mayor Tom won three polls and Reeve Clare Salisbury Mr Surgeoners top three polls were in the central and southwest centra part of Newmarket while Mr Salisbury won a narrow victory in the former King Township subdivision who was defeated for the seat by only two votes by Stouffville reeve Kenneth Laushway has requested that a recount be made by a County Judge It is the first time a recount of ballots has been request ed in the area At one time during the final counting of ballots Mr Laushway was trailing by 84 votes but went into a two vote lead at the final report of votes in Ward 5 Costs of the recount are estimat ed at about and could be assessed against the applicant if the count re- Costs are at the discretion of the judge and could be apportioned according to the result of the count Reeve has stated
