meeting of representatives of town organizations which was called by the Newmarket recreation commit tee last Wednesday night put together initial plans for the opening and en dorsed a proposal by meeting Chair- Bob that It work towards celebrations are expected to take place either the final Saturday in September or the first in October depending on the arena con struction program Two committees were formed Allan Tough of the Chancellors Car Club will chair the committee ing afternoon festivities which will bo oriented to children and John Cole of Newmarket Rotary Club will chair the evening celebrations The committee tentatively plat a free corn roast for the after noon complete with bands and clowns In the evening a German beer garden again with bands for dancing Is plan- Show in the arena foyer for the whole Mr in opening the meet ing pointed out Newmarket was once renowned for its community activities For many years one of the largest ype for next yea fairs in Ontario was held here It died when the army made the fair grounds Into a basic training centre in 1039 but other carnivals and street dances sprang up in succeeding years The town has had nothing for Photo NEWMARKET As Newmar kets dropin centre prepared for its final day of operation a small group of teenagers planned a demonstra tion for last night to protest the cen tres shutdown less than two months after it opened A spokesman for the organizing group told The Era the teenagers hoped to appeal for support from po litical leaders and the voting public to keep the centre open Some protest ors also opposed tho manner in which the centre was operated since it op ened late in June the spokesman said The dropin centre is in the old Newmarket Motors building on ford St In a statement issued Authority owns Wesley Brooks Conservation Area a park Stir ling the lake Last Wednesday over the water by the towns fire truck coagulates pollutants and the resulting harmless sludge sinks to the bottom leaving the water clear and The only problem remaining is to keep it that way said Mr Sterritt said the longterm solution must be eliminate upstream tors The Authority feels a shortterm solution would be to install a tank of alum solution above Fairy Lake The tank would send a fixed number of gallons of solution per day down stream through the lake keeping the water pure The main polluters of the river system feeding Fairy Lake are Choice CutUp Chicken in Aurora St An drews College and the Aurora Muni cipal sewage treatment plant accord ing to an Ontario Water Resources
