son OAK Blue Hills Academy is launching a public campaign to raise the 209000 needed for completion of its residential treatment centre for York Countys emotionally disturbed children Located onehalf mile west of St on the CFRB Sideroad Blue Hills has completed construction of the two cottage units in its first develop ment phase One unit will accommodate youngsters and the other will serve as an administration building until the sec ond phase of development is completed The Blue Hills staff moved into the administration building last Wednes day and is currently undergoing an inten sive orientation program in preparation for opening of the centre in the near As an nonprofit organization Blue Hills qualifies for provincial grants on twothirds of its estimated capital expense of 536200 Now the academy Is trying raise the remaining 209000 from its con stituency of York County A Blue Hills official said the campaign became necessary after County Council refused a request to provide a 209000 grant February light of County Councils decision not to support Blue Hills Acad emy the Board of Directors after recov ering from their initial dlsappoinlment and disillusionment took a hard look at what they were trying to do and decided they must carry their appeal to the peo ple of the county said Russell McDonald chairman of the academys board of direc- McDonald is also superin tendent of Area 3 of the York County Board of Education Blue Hills already had received some financial help from such commu nity organisations as the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Lions Clubs of District A7 And students from King City Secondary School donated as part of the proceeds from their lost fall Academy officials are confident they can raise the needed to build a third cottage unit and a permanent administration building Upon comple tion of the second phase the temporary administrative facilities now in use will be converted to accommodations for 12 more children We
