Hasketts Hash Hockey leaders see big year George Haskeltw Don Menard Mr Physical Education at Pickering College has been kind enough to present us with a Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association Code for Players and Code for Coaches We are very impressive with what the physical education leaders at all our area schools are doing to provide students with instruction in playing the game and sportsmanship There is that old slogan that applies in sport that runs something like And when the One Great Leader asks How did you play the game Will you be able to answer played it hard but was a sport is to treat other persons as you yourself would like to bo treated This is the Code the bible for players and coaches alike in the Georgian Bay District as well as with the Ontario Federation of Secondary Schools We would like to see it be honored not only in our school sports but in hockey football softball baseball soccer and other sports that do not come under the jurisdiction of the secondary schools physical education staffs Already we have noted Montreal Cana- no doubt the worlds best hockey team and Boston Bruins have had to resort to fisticuffs stick swinging etc in an NHL exhibition game Must we go from one of these episodes to another throughout the hockey season Isnt it possible to play a game without incidents of this nature Surely grown men who are supposed to set an example for our youth and young hockey players should consider what this mayhem on ice does Every kid across the country who hears about it and sees no one do anything about in our hockey must wonder why it isnt part of the game If you or swung a stick at someone on the Main Street we would expect John Law to arrest us for assault and battery Yet it seems hockey players can do these things in a rink and get away with it In short one law for John Public and another law for hockey players We dont think it should be allowed Coaches selected AURORA Min or hockey in Aurora is de finitely off
