King school board issues statement on land purchase The Era NewmarketAurora Wed October 23 1KB J Parents meet teachers at meeting STRANGE The following is a press release issued by the members of King Township Area Public School Board which they feel will clear up some of the confusion regarding the purchase of land in the township for a proposed township public library How unfortunate that words can so often be misinterpreted Rudeness have crept into public of fice This release there fore is not an apology of the stand taken by your School Board but an at tempt to present certain facts for clarification and to show that this type of unseemly and to the detri ment of our people The King A has never disagreed with the concept that lib rary facilities are of tre mendous value to our town ship people and in particu lar to our school popula tion la fact we have en couraged the creation of school libraries and re source centres wherever possible in our new schools The area of land offered by the school board which fronts on King Boulevard and is by ISO is a grassed section of the King Senior School and has access to our paved parking lot which was of fered to the library board after school hours Indeed to imply that this was not fit for a garbage dump is not only an unreasonable statement but highly im mature in its outlook This land was offered freely and in good faith for the sum of to the library board The fallowing is a rough sketch of the land offered fat the public meeting the members of the library hoards reason for not be ing enthusiastic about this site was that it could not be seen by the travelling public and this was their This building lot is at the front of the school not the rear as was stated and has a similar contour of land as the other Parcel Land suggested by the lib rary board The statement it would result in the rate payers of King Township paying twice for the piece of land is a complete fallacy II makes no dif ference which board ap proaches the Township for funds this the channel to which they the Library Board can turn The School Board felt that to enable our town ship to continue a farsight ed building and renovation program the monies real ized from the sale of this land would bring extra benefits to the entire town ship The School Board discussed the sever- of this parcel of land during June 1968 and con sulted with our attormes to approach the Committee of Adjustment at the nearest date for The statement that the Boards action was unseemly and hasty and had all the un dertones and bad taste of a fire sale is irresponsible and ludicrous The action was instituted long before the library board approach ed the School Board in the later part of August for an a The statement that the other members apparently decided to pro ceed without him is mis leading The library board asked in the strongest terms that the School Board meet before Monday Sep tember 16 as it planned to go to the Council seeking approval of its building bud get The Board called a special meeting for Mon day and this was agreed upon by the full board membership Mr Bachly stated that he would be un able to be present on that date as he would be out of town Therefore the re maining members of the Board to accommodate the Library Board decided to meet immediately and did KETTLEBY The PTA of Kettleby Public School sponsored an even ing to meet the teachers last Tuesday evening Mr Griffith principal spoke on the new level system used in the primary grades A question and answer per iod and social hour follow the t that a motion by Mr seconded by Mrs Pater- son that the Board hold in abeyance the sale of this land requested by the King Library Board until the Library Board inquires into other aspects was passed unanimously The entire decision was to enable the Library Board to go to Council the following week which they never did clear up any About people attended the Snowball WI penny sale at the Parish Hal recently the
