ium of your paper- Contributions from Newmarket Aurora King Sharon and the surrounding area totalled This will be used to maintain the many ser vices for registered blind in this district These services are great iu number such as employ ment home teaching residences library and talking books white cane prevention of blindness eye bank dogs besides giv ing useful and needy presents at more pleas ant nig titer system for US long- suffering northern York County residents who have to travel back and forth from Toronto each day I bought a home in Newmarket about three years ago and find it a delightful place to live I wouldnt want to live any place else I lived in Toronto before mov ing to Newmarket and had to fight my way across the city to get to and from work When I moved to Newmarket three years ago it took mo less time to get to work even though I lived 15 or miles far ther away from my job now Now its taking me longer be cause the traffic is getting heavier I guess more and more people are moving to Newmarket and nobodys doing anything about the commuter service would make Newmarket an even more delight ful place to live THIS WEEK By Ray Argyle All for one Next government and after the amalgamation of school boards and health districts it seems lhal vital services like fire wel fare and police departments are next in line There is no doubt that least these latter ones could be administered much more efficiently on a regional level and some hope for a little sav ing of costs The County Scat could use a break loaded it is with nonprofit county build ings and installations for county benefits The most important field how ever is land use and planning and while the first would on housing and industry other favorable to such regional control A case in point are recreational cost and their location In Newmarket and other throughout the county ha in artificial ice arena tryin to hold its against neighborly com petition a swimming pool that in two summer months is the sole source of water pleasure for child ren of this town and the adjacent areas to east and north and west not to speak of adults These two facilities besides the band- shell are actually all we have to offer and all we can afford They do provide us with basic recreation at lowest rales and as nonresident neighbors begrudge the slightly higher prices charged them the resident taxpayer equal ly begrudges the tab presented to him year end for the opera- tlotis A local group is bravely tackling plans for a Centre and facing the thankless task of gain ing support and interest from a people hat expects to pay for downtown redevelopment on lop of record taxes On it regional level co-opera- even If not control things could be achieved Just think would put up an Indoor
