Moonlighters BELHAVEN Small busi nessmen and tradesmen in this area have declared war on moonlighters who are stealing their customers un dercutting their prices and then leaving the consumer without the protection of a guarantee The Jersey Businessmens Association a growing member organization of tradesmen and small busi nesses last week asked North Township Coun cil to invite a Provincial Labour Department field rep resentative to a council meet ing to explain what steps can be taken to protect consumers from what the association termed in its letter unquali fied tradesmen in the area Association president BUI Harvey explained later that moonlighters people with fulltime jobs who take other District ERA jobs on the side have be come numerous in the area He said many take on car pentry plumbing and electri cal jobs which they are not qualified to handle and then since they have no established business in the field cannot offer any guarantee on their work if it is riot satisfactory He cited the case of one family who had a septic tank installed this way The work men put the tank under only three feet of cover The cover soon washed away When the family investigated Kettleby Worries Institute featured a delightful evening of plays sing songs for the children and WI meet ing Mrs Grace Burns welcom ed the audience on behalf of the and introduced Mr Griffith principal of Kettleby school who spoke on the trend of education The first skit of the evening featured Mrs Alvin Wood and Mrs Robert Watson from the Bunvick Institute at Wood- bridge in a play called Years Ago a look at the In stitute in its first year The skit featured Mrs Doug Brookes Mrs C George and Mrs Cook showing the Insti tute of today Highlight of the evening was a patriotic pageant Canada Our Home and featured Grade students from Narrator Cynthia Dallinger did a wonderful job as she in troduced the children who rep resented the different groups of people in Canada dressed in
