Stanley on behalf of his club Art Ferguson organizer and convenor for the Centennial B hockey tournament last spring presented an appreciation gift to Stan Stan has been asked to serve on this coming years B series tournament Keys read a letter from Ed Bush express ing his regrets at not being able to be present on this historic occasion Stan and Mrs Smiths many friends were next introduced Roy Keys representing Elmer Mattice and the Newmarket Argus Camera Junior C hockey club also presented a gift Recreation Director Don Popple took over to have Doug Duncan who been at the arena with Stan for years present a plaque on behalf of the Newmarket Arena Com mission giving Stan a life arena membership Direc tor Popple presented the Stan Smith Trophy to Stan The Trophy to to the Minor Hockey Man of the Year annually STAN SMITH AWARD Stan Smith on behalf of minor hockey called on Art Ferguson to step forward to receive the award Art Ferguson being a worthy recipient of this first year award because of his convenorship of minor hockey tournaments particularly the series a first in Ontario Mrs Smith wasnt forgotten Mary Lou Framp- probably the youngest member of the New market Figure Skating Club presented flowers to Mrs Smith on behalf of Mr and Mrs Ray The program for the event was produced by the Gorman Smoke Rings Hockey Club led by Peter Gorman Herb Cain and Norm A proud trio of hockey leaders who led Newmarket Junior hockey teams to four OHA championships in less than half a decade Stan Smith expressed his thanks for the and well wishes Stan Smith and Mrs Smith left as Sanderson Ann and Melanie skated solo number that were a treat to behold The pairs numbers pith Karen and Barbara Paul and Janice Fletcher certainly rated encores was particularly grace ful and a bright future can be predicted for this young skater Ed Sanderson was M for the pro gram and Handy handled the music They made the Old Timers hockey team dress in the ladies room to give them an inferiority com plex but it didnt work They came out flying and after learning this wasnt spot hockey they managed to scrape out a tie with the allstar Canadian Legion midget club This put Legion manager Jim Gibbons on the spot His was the chore of presenting the John trophy to the winning club or was it to go to the loser no one was quite sure Gibbons finally gave the trophy to the Old Timers
