have to hold up pro duction on their proposed new extension for a day or so until Town Council unravels a tangled web involving building permits the acting building inspector the town engineer the Committee of Adjustment and finally the Town Council The committee of the Legion applied for a building permit In the late Spring and they were by the acting building inspec tor Dave McCaffrey that their plans did not conform with the required 20 feet of set back They were issued with the permit sub ject to change being made on the south west comer of the addition Checking the addition at the start of con struction Mr McCaffrey placed a stopwork order on site as the original plans were still being followed Legion explained to Mr McCaffrey that work had been started on the original plan because they had received confirmation from Town Engineer that it would be in order The matter was brought before council Monday night by Mayor Drew who heard arguments both for and against allow ing the work to continue Roy Keffer chairman of the Committee or Adjustment told council that while Committee had been appointed at the time of issuance of the permit they had no au thority until some months later when approval of the appointees had been received from the Department of Municipal Affairs He explained the plans for the section in the controversy saying that there would bo an infringement on the setback from Vale Ave of about six feet Councillor Don said that he would like to have council question the Town Engi neer as to why permission was given to con tinue with the work
