Victory Baptist Church Newmarket Is the Christian Church failing to show the present generation a better way of living Are we in any way responsible for the restlessness and loitering of our local young people It seems so frequently the tendency is to throw up the hands in disgust and consider it impossible while at the same time or just a little in the background is moving another host of preteens to the same waste and we are now doing nothing about it Without too much investigation it is evident today that our teens are being chaperoned more than challenged to be helpful and productive In order to keep them in the Church we make it easier for them The truth that by making it softer we are only losing more ground Why is it that teens will volunteer for the Peace Corp and go to unknown and difficult places without rebellion or questions and in great numbers and yet they shy away from the Church I believe it is because we lack adven ture and stimulation for them In taking the blame upon the Church may I be quick to assure that it is not the fault of the Head of the Church Jesus Christ For when Christ walked among men there was certainly chal lenge and adventure and even hardship when He called them to follow Him Teens want something worth living for and if need be something worth dying for can this challenge be found within our local Churches Young people rebel against all forms of conformity set by society and give vent to their feelings by going to Yorkville taking drugs or marching Ira a parade Did not the Master also call men from the Worlds conformity by command ing them to present their bodies to Him as a reason able service and to deny themselves of self and wonlly pleasures Is the message being reechoed today If our Town Teens are to be guided from the inevitable end of being local building and sidewalk clutters they will need more than just planned recreational facilities They will need more adult interest and concern as well as a clearcut challenge to follow the commands of Christ and to be integrated into a meaningful and purposeful work through the local Church Can the commands of Christ hold our modern day teens is the question that arises in our adult hearts Yes we were once part of those teens We who know Christ as Saviour and of our lives do know that Christ did make the difference then when we were introduced to Him So He will today as He is clearly presented and obeyed He is the maker and of lives He has overcome this world He has the abundant life the water that quenches all thirst the bread that satisfies all hunger However before He gives us all this He demands a complete forsaking of ourselves and our sins and a whole hearted following of Him He was sufficient to capture robust men of the first century such as the big fisherman Peter and the shrewd tax- collector Matthew So He is sufficient today to satisfy every life young or old Zephyr Girls Attend Crusaders Camp Zephyr Ann and Barbara
