stages The new company does hot plan at this time to employ a large staff or go Info a type of mass production They are building up a sales staff to offer the product to the smaller retail outlets in Can ada and in this way feel they will be able to keep costs down and market the bear chair at a competitive price Annual trade between Can ada and South America ex ceeds half a billion dollars OPINIONS ARE YOU USING THE WRONG GAS One way or the other it could cost you money or seriously harm your cars engine Gasoline is a relatively simple subject complicated by the claims of oil companies whose aims are more propaganda than education Octane rating is the number one puzzler to most drivers who are under the mistaken impression that the higher the octane rating lhe more the power This not so The octane rating of a gasoline Is determined by the presence in the gasoline of a com pound known as octane which will not knock in relation to normal heptane which knocks readily More IsoocUfie less knock and vice- versa Knock or ping in the engine which most motorists are familiar with occurs when the gasoline- air combination mixture which drives the pistons combusts too rapidly and pounds the piston sharply instead of pushing it evenly The compound or the addition of tetraethyl lead slows down the combustion The push power of the gasoline is just the same In all grades only the rate of combustion is changed Your dealer will know if your V8 motor can be adjusted to run without knock on regular gas and save you about 270 per thousand miles If your automatic choke needs seasonal adjustment to the rate of gas vaporization which is changed in all gasolines sea sonally and regionally he should do that too REPORT By AL WALL An early morning fire Friday morning com pletely destroyed the premises and stock of he Harrison Feed Mill at Zephyr Some Ontario Hydro employees are seen eliminating further danger of live wires falling on the street during the later stages of the blaze Staff New Ontario Road Map Has Many New Features Agricultural Representative for York County If you add two and two together the answer isnt four these days At least many of our beef cattle men tell me this Those who try to look ahead and make plans usually find that the situation just doesnt add up Order your Fertilizer for Spring now and sleep nights On one side all the predictions point to a greater and greater demand for beef On the other hand profit from a cow calf business just isnt good enough While hundreds of fcedlots have been set up a good number of cow calf men send their cows to market every year There is no comfort in this for operators With fewer cows and fewer calves and more people after them price levels for young stock are sure to be higher The only solution is to find a way to make cows and calves more profitable A 35 cent price level for is often mentioned as the price necessary to make a beef cow pay her way Prices like this may not be too far away Even with better prices in York County we would have to get our feed costs for cows down a lot from what it is now Like it or not we have to accept the fact that it wont pay to use prime land to grow feed for beef cows Beef cows will use waste or land well but on most farms there isnt very much of this A more promising angle is that we now know that cows can he maintained on byproducts of other crops Tests at here in Ontario and at Purdue University in Indiana have proven that cows and heifers will winter well on corn stalks A little grain has to be added if the cows are nursing calves but on corn stalks cow can be fed for around 15 or 20 cents a day As a result I think there can be a place for beef cows in York County Those who grow corn either as a cash crop or for pigs could add beef cows as a second line Fed mainly on corn stalks from either a silo or stack feed costs will be low enough to make them pay And if feeder prices keep going up they could add to the profit picture very nicely Mastitis Control Takes Four Steps TORONTO The Honour able George Min ister of Highways has an nounced the release of the Official Ontario Road Map for Published by the
