"The English people really used me swell" was one of the first things that CQMS Arthur (Blondie) Gilkinson said when he arrived home here last night and was given a real welcome by several of his friends who met him at the C.N.R. station.Veteran says English were really swell "In my estimation I think that the English people are wonderful and they never let a Canadian soldier want in any way at all and that is something that I will never forget for a long time," he said when interviewed by the Post this morning.
CQMS Gilkinson who joined the armed forces in January of 1940 and has served overseas most of this time stated that while in Italy he met several Lindsay boys, including Ross Endicott, Art Heffernan and many more boys too numerous to mention. "It sure was great to see the boys and it made a fellow fed more as if he were at home," he said.
Arriving in Toronto on Tuesday morning at 1 a.m. he was given a thirty-day leave at home and expects to receive his discharge when he goes back to Toronto early next month.
Asking “Blondie” who was with him when he arrived in Lindsay last night he stated that ex-prisoner of war Laverne Gamble had arrived home on the same train.
