opportuni ties for local construction trades men are highlighted by two large housing developments and one- large industrial plant being mult in the Aurora area One of the most pleasing trends is the fact that several small industries are planning to locate in the Newmarket area The effect of this upon the la bor market will not likely be seen until spring according to the local office Area town cause any qualms of conscience if youre the type who worries about the effect of the Christmas tree business on our forests The fact that yours is one of 31 million trees used for holiday decorations this year makes it seem that our forests are in great peril but such is not the cose In fact at least half of these trees arc coming from sources that did not harm or actually improved the forest land they occupied when cut Foresters who grow sawlog I trees generally divide land into four classes and Christ- mastree land is the lowest classi fication It wont grow good for- but is ideal for Christmas trees since it barely supports tree life The tree in its struggle to exist throws out quick and fre quent branches On such land are the Christ mastree farms such one op erated at Washington year for Paul Kirk for his carefully grown trees must arrive at destinations on time It isnt unusual for him to tour doens of cities checking on shipments before he gets home at the last moment to gather with his family around the Kirks huge whitesprayed tree There arc Scandinavian French and ancient Egyptian legends which claim to have given the Christmas tree to the world The first authentic mention of a Christmas tree is of one in Strax- Germany Christmas south of the equator falls midsummer Thus the decorations are fresh flowers and goodies often are fruits taken from the trees WHO
