like to count I attended the area con vention and learned so much from it and from Miss Starrs report of the days I did not attend For the last two years illness has made it impos sible for me to go but our presi dent Gladys Ridley such an inspiring report that I bor rowed notes and from them am giving the readers of this column a little of what she heard I should like first to tell of a few remarks made by Mrs Jean Newman controller who in the absence of Mayor Phillips brought greetings from the city of Toronto She said that most women do a mansized job which is just what you make it sheer drudgery or lively and exciting arte says it takes courage to fact the things we are confronted with and she added is to bite off more than you can and chew it to undertake more than you can do and do it When a woman is well educat ed she passes it on to the family and so it finds its way to the community She stressed that Canadians should help new Can adians to become accustomed to our ways and also there is much we can learn from them I think the theme of the convention well worth putting here Talents are loans to be passed on to our suc- I thought the first speaker Mrs introduced by Mrs Armstrong had some fine things to say One thing she thinks our organization is weak on is pre paring programs She believes in panel discussions and also in us ing the same theme for various meetings Financial budgets she said should be arranged without tax ing the members She emphasiz ed that children through the vari ous stages of their career and up through the clubs are poten tial members and must be wel come She stressed too that many women hide their talents instead of using them and then as our theme says passing them on to our successors Mrs Armstrong I as chairman said that at all meetings we should have Motto and Reply Home she said should be comfortable and in spiring lifting household tasks above commonplace As most women are interested in menus she gave the following fruit cocktail breaded veal cut let with tomato sauce new lima beans potatoes and for dessert frozen muskoka roll with crushed strawberries The guest speaker at the luncheon was Dr Margaret Mix McGill Univer sity who was introduced by Mrs Elton Armstrong Mrs Ridley said she was a most dynamic speaker and held the undivided attention of her hearers through out her speech She spoke of the home as the unit of society the father head of the household the mother holding the fort The home must have security and happiness The mother who loves and under stands her child who doesnt ask that child be a rose if he is a petunia is a real mother We all have heredity blue eyes blue jeans but we only inherit that which grows in a cell the rest is the result of experience the de veloping and forth as arrows to find their mark in the world If we paid as much for education as we do for liquor cigarettes and beer we would have a much higher standard of education It takes years to educate a doctor but how long does it take to fit some teachers who will have our child ren in their keeping It is im perative too that children should get enough sleep and enough love for love will stimulate growth and a little praise to a child means much Love will bind the family to gether and the result of home- life so will go out to the community the church and the school It was a memorable ad dress Dr Marian Millard also spoke on the changing attitude in the treatment of women Much knowledge she said had been gained on how we are put to gether and our metabolic state which gives us energy Wisdom lies in understanding the limit within which one can function Learn what you can accomplish for too much of anything can wear down the hormone element even though it be pleasant These are just excerpts from Mrs Rid leys notes but I thought they would be of interest to any wo man whether a I member or not Another item of our November program at Bogarttown which was interesting was a talk on the origin of Willow pattern china by Mrs Gordon McClure She gave us willow ware saucers and as she read we followed the tra gic little talc from which the pic tured pattern derives There was also a good current events prepared by Mrs A Mc Millan and read by Miss Starr The November meeting was at the home of Mrs Earl Toole Toronto Club Entertains Members Over Club members and club leaders from
