to organize the local team for was held Saturday night at Bill Brookes residence Bill Brookes was given a un animous vote of confidence and reelected president for Mr Brookes received congratula tions from everyone attending the meeting for his fine work throughout the season Tony Brookes was elected sec retary Jack Robinson treasurer and Jim Richardson trustee Arnold Nelson was elected captain Derek Wilson assistant captain of the team Peter was elected enter tainment chairman with Arnold Nelson his assistant There was an election for al most every office George kett acted as chairman for the election proceedings The new executive takes over on Nov The club plans to investigate the possibility of operating a social and athletic club throughout the winter months A banquet will be held Oct 26 to officially close the sea son Each player it was decided is to receive a trophy for their excellent play throughout the summer The trophies will be presented at the banquet Newmarket will be Newmarket and district soccer league champions and winners of the Carling Trophy if they win next Saturdays final match against Brampton Seconds The game is scheduled to be played at the fair grounds were Lawn Bowlers Active Torchlight On Town League The town leagues world series finished Wednesday closing the books on its second year of oper ation and busiest season Over the regular and playoff schedules the teams played over games The league gave ap proximately fellows an op portunity to play Canadian Legion won the league championship The Leg ion showed their class in the playoffs They eliminated in turn Brad Walker Newmarket Dairy McNeil Dodgers and Green Acres During the playoff scraps the Legion didnt lose one game It added up in all to nine succes sive playoff triumphs It was an record for any team and they are worthy league title holders During regular schedule play the Legion lost but two games the season opener and the final game of the regular schedule This week we salute Sponsor Local Bantam Hockey The Newmarket Optimists al ways ready to lend a hand with Newmarkets minor sport pro gram will once again sponsor bantam hockey in town The Optimists expect to oper ate fourteam town league and will also sponsor an allstar team for North York league com petition There is just one stipulation to the optimists proposal Mem bers within their organization must be prepared to coach and manage the teams Players registration forms will be circulated through the schools shortly All players interested in playing bantam hockey are asked to sign the forms and re turn once miss ed the boat A Mr rink representing Withrow Park Toronto won the Organize Tyke Hockey Great enthusiasm and best at tendance ever about sums up the meeting held to organie the Saturday morning tyke and wee hockey program for the coming winter The meeting was held Friday in the town hall basement Everyone came in with ideas and chairman Francis worih gA ve one and all an oppor tunity to express their views on the hockey program The program incidentally is sponsored by the Newmarket Re creation Commission under the guidance of the Newmarket min or hockey association Taking into consideration the number of new registrations at tin- primary schools hockey chairman Francis reported that a league of at least teams would be required to give very boy an opportunity to play hockey The league to be made up of and six teams The games as in the past will be played on Saturday mornings from am to pm After due deliberation ami it was decided not to al low players from the allstar tyke and peewee teams to play ill the Saturday morning league It was the general feeling of the metting that the leagues would be more balanced if the allstars weie not allowed to participate in regular league play It was also felt that the allstar players were getting enough hotkey through league games Jl was decided to allow fathers to coach teams on which their sons play There was an forms are now being circulated in all the primary schools When the forms have been filled out and returned the peeweetyke hock ey program will get under way will be on teaching the small fry the fundamentals hockey It is expected that for the first three weeks at least games will be exhibition contests and practice sessions so that Ihe coaches can get out on the ice with their players and show them tome of the finer points of game first prizes of 15 lb turkeys An unusual feature was that a Mr and another bowler were unable to pick up a third bowler and to make up the threesome brought an Ontario Baseball Association championship Saturday was the red letter day in North York baseball an nals It was then that Hon Browns Richmond Hill Kinsmen blanked capture the Ontario Bantam A title To gain this honor the Rich mond Hill club eliminated New market Optimists in North York league play and in the semifinals Hurler Jim was Richmond Hill hero pitched a sterling threehitter and struck
