Manufacturing Company Limited possibly few people are aware the industrial lands in Ontario are assessed on an acre- ape basis rather than on a basis of lots or individual parcels of land The property of this camp- any assessed on exactly the basis as industries in the town of Newmarket Not withstanding that lands are not described by lot and plan num ber on the assessors roll never theless the entire property own ed by the company is included in its assessment is totally unjust ified and incorrect I have seen the assessment of two of our new industries APV and Tenatronics and the lands of both are fully and properly described by lot numbers in ac- with The Assessment Act I know of no industry whose lands aw omitted from the roll except the Office Specialty Company Yours very truly Reeve Two Residents Protest Motion Say Land Values Threatened If Zoning Law Allows Jobbers BEAVERBROOK HONORED IN LIFETIME The Ontario mu nicipal board hearing for resi dents of the area was a brief one Only minutes were required to hear opinions and objections on the application of King township for the boards approval of a bylaw to restrict the use of land and the erection of buildings in the defined area Two recommendations to amend the bylaw were made by ratepayers when the hearing was given in the council chamber of King township municipal build ing on Monday Sept IB Kennedy presided on be half of the municipal board Sit- ling with Mr Kennedy were J Lucas township solicitor who spoke for the township Reeve William Hodgson representing council Clerk G Rose and planning consultant Gordon ham representing the township planning board The proposed amendments the bylaw were to en large the commercial on highway west side extend ing to the south boundary of police village and to delete the word jobber as a permissible use in the commercial zone Mr Kennedy said thai as one member of the board could not make a decision he would report Letter From TeHs China Experience A letter objections to his board He also stated the town ship council will be given time to reconsider the two proposed changes in the zoning bylaw James Cutler who owns a re sidence on the west side of high way and the eastwest side- road road asked that his lot with his residence be classified in the commercial zone Mis lot is adjacent to a zoned commercial block on the Hugh farmland fronting high way Mr Cutler argued that the commercial uses permitted in the bylaw would jeopardize the value of his property for residen tial use Representatives of council and planning hoard were satisfied with Mr Cutlers request Mr Cutler was assured that wreck ing yards in commercial zones are not permissible Mr Lucas said township has a separate by law that prevents auto wrecking vards Interpretation Debated Reeve Hodgson recommended to the municipal board that the word be deleted from commercial zoning If the need ever arises that a jobber comes to council he can be dealt with on another basts said reeve The reeves recommendation arose from strong objections by Mr Cutler and Kenneth Leonard who has a 100acrc farm on the east side of highway They contended that a jobber takes in nearly everything It could mean a person buying ma chinery and using an openair lot for displays or repairs want commercial kept clean so my pro perty will not be jeopardized Mr pointed out is a distributing centre Mr Colham stated A jobber is the least harmful of any Me may have an office Me works for a manufacturer or the wholesaler as the inbetween man but he does not have things on his property indicative of his vocation Mi Kennedy said he didnt think a jobber should create problems While we want to get this by- law as nearly perfect as possible it is not like the laws of the Modes and Persians in that it is unredeemable or able Both Mr Cutler and Mr Leon ard remained unconvinced that a jobber in commercial zones could he termed a business man They fill if allowed something unde sirable and unacceptable could turn up When Canadianborn British publisher Lord Beaverbrook makes his annual visit to this year he will see this statue dedicated to him and paid for by the people of his province
