NEWMARKET Crowd Packs Jamboree Legion Officials Plan More By Francis Archer A crowd estimated at 2000 to 3000 packed the Newmarket arena last Saturady night tor a really fine countryandwestem music show sponsored by the Newmarket branch of the Can adian Legion Called the Dominion Jamboree it ran for over three hours and was crammed with good Canad ian talent from the country music field Emceeing the show was Josh King wellknown for his own radio show Country Caravan Chapman and his Prairie Dawgs got the show off to a good start with Bye Bye Love The Prairie were smartly dressed in scarlet jackets and white stetsons and were ably led by a fine 28yearold singer and guitarist Several popular songs followed includ ing White Sport Coat and Black board of My Heart Pretty Rita Randall appeared next dressed in a white satin gown This very charming and friendly singer accompanied her self on the guitar while singing such songs as I Just Went Along For The Ride and Jambalaya which were well received Chapman then returned to the microphone snappy rendition of Stephen Fosters Swanec River This was follow ed by Theres a Goldmine in Sky beautifully vocalized by Later a young and talented singer Cyril sev eral fine songs Marcel Buck- and his Northern Playboys with Dean on the fiddle put in an appearance next Then energetic young Cliffy Short bounced merrily on stage and delighted the audience with his singing and his rubberleg ged antics He was followed by Jack McLean a versatile enter tainer who gave forth with some good country humor During the intermission Mar shall Earn and his two men who had been patrolling the arena proceeded to make a couple of false arrests in their search for three desperadoes on the loose Bull Shutcr Slim Chants and Foolish A appearance with his imitations of popular entertainers Among them were Jerry Cologna com plete with handlebar mous tache and Jerrys version of Ebb Tide George and banjo Louis Armstrong singing DRESSINGS WORK GROUP TO MEET THURSDAY SEPT The Ncwmaiket group formed to make dressings for the Can- Cancer Society will meet to plan work for the coming winter on Thursday Sept The meetings this year will he held as usual at the Department of Agriculture hoard rooms St the last Thursday of each month There has been heavy de mand fur supplies during the summer months and the reserve of dressings
