York County by the I present rapid growth of some of the townships towns and villages Dr Robert King medical officer of health and director of the York County health unit reported on conditions to the board of health July 24 The increased demand for safe clean water supplies has not gone unheeded and and Vau- townships Richmond Hill Aurora and Newmarket have tak en pains to expand their supplies to meet the demands of the grow ing population Most municipalit ies have also concerned themsel ves with safe and sanitary sew age disposal methods to protect the health of present citizens and new citizens in numerous new houses streets and subdivisions Richmond Hill installed and placed in operation a community sewage disposal system in The already overtaxed system has now been expanded to accommo date the rapidly growing volume of potentially dangerous sewage and to provide some reserve cap acity for additional sewage from future growth Auroras additional capacity for its sewage disposal plant is ready to be placed in operation to ade quately handle its overtaxed sew age demands Stouffville has just placed in operation its rcently installed sewage disposal system thus res cuing the village from literally sinking into a quagmire of inoper ative septic tanks laced wilh poll- 1 uted streams township is launching a program to install a safe water supply and sewerage system for the developed residential south west corner of the township Sutton is about to place in oper ation its newly installed commun ity water system thus ensuring a safe and clean water supply to re sidents previously dependent for well water from an increasingly contaminated water tabic Village has its well laid plans for a community sewer age system before the Ontario Municipal Board for approval of financing There is no reason why this project should not be shortly underway persons continues to dump en tire volume of sewage raw and untreated into the waters of the Holland river at several points as it passes through the town The MOH says that continuing delay in treating Newmarket sew age to retrieve the Holland river from contamination will raise grave health hazards for not only the downstream resi dents of the township of East GwilUmbury but also for the resi dents of the town of Newmarket itself The effects of inadequate sew age treatment can be various and roundabout The cleanliness of the water shed is increasingly jeopar dized Future water supplies are possibly damaged beyond repair A host of possible diseases stand menacingly suspicious in the sha dow of human waste Wholesome growth of the com munity no doubt requires a cer tain degree of industrial expan sion But communityminded in dustries will- not locate in mun icipalities with unsolved sewage disposal problems All of these ef fects have a direct influence on the public health of the town of Newmarket says Dr King A survey of the degree of con tamination and pollution in the waters of the Holland river in the vicinity of Newmarket is about to be carried on by the Ontario Wat er Resources Commission in co operation with the local health unit The findings of this survey should prove valuable and instru ctive to the citizens of the town of Newmarket and to the residents of the township downstream from the which the Hol land river passes Conserve Water In King Or A Regulating ByLaw Necessary Says Official At the regular monthly meeting of King City village trustees July 23 Waterworks Commissioner J Bolton warned residents to con serve water by watering gardens and lawns between pm and 9 pm This way he said there is less danger of shortage this fall If the request is unheeded not ices will bo forwarded If notices are disregarded a bylaw will be formulated and strictly enforced Contravention of a bylaw means paying a fine The reason for confining lawn watering to a twohour period is because the village tank fills up at night Mr Bolton pointed out Page The Era and Express styling always comes out on top Remember when all the male fashion magazines were full of pink shirts Store windows blushed pink on every side and for a little while at least shirt dealers were very happy Then the clearance began and dealers trjed everything they could to dis pose of the pink shirts that people werent buying any more One more fancy fad had come and gone We think theres a moral in that applies to the car business too And when we take a look at sales record this year were sure of it Canadians everywhere appreciate quiet graceful beauty the absence of flash and They recognize and appreciate the sort of workmanship in every detail that only General Motors can put into a car They like the friendly treatment and the efficient service they find when ever they deal with a dealer But see for yourself as you drive Just count the and youll agree the rising Pontiao popularity is turning into a veritable torrent A GENERAL MOTORS VAIUE LESSOR MotOrS Newmarket 361 Eagle St Newmarket
