show to be the larg est and most attractive ever stag ed one which will give the maxi mum enjoyment to all visitors There will be demonstrations of flower arrangements on both days of the show and these demonstra tions will be done by experts in this field In addition to the competitive classes there will be the big flow er displays by leading Canadian and American growers who spe cialize in the growing of the fin est gladiolus varieties Some of these growers will bring several thousand blooms to make up their displays and it is in these exhibits that the newer and choicer vari eties are to be found The true gladiolus fan will find the seedling division of great in terest Here may be seen the new and better glads of tomor row the ones that the glad en thusiast has always dreamed about Many new seedlings will be shown from New York State Ohio Michigan and various parts of Canada A special feature of the show is the New Introduction Division which is comprised of varieties having been not more than five years on the market Every color imaginable can be had in gladiolus and visitors will see hues they never believed could possibly exist in a single flower Yet not all these blooms were grown by big growers many were selected for the show from the backyard of the average amateur Many of these amateur gardeners are in reality experts at the art of growing exhibition flowers Everything from wee oneinch size blooms to the tremendous se ven or eightinch giants will on display each competing against the other for top honors and these top honors really mean Magnificent trophies will be given to the premier win ners and for the others not quite so fortunate there are prizes of choice bulbs of the most valuable show gladiolus and other prizes in cash and classes is the Rev J Sicbert Judging the arrangement division will be Miss Margaret Dove Mrs C Hooper and Mrs A Lyle all of Toronto The show will be open to the public at 3 pm Thursday Aug and on that day will close at pm On Friday Aug the show will be open from 10 am until 10 pm Starting at pm on Friday the 16th all the blooms in the show will be auc tioned Committee Collecting Antiques For Centennial Historical Show Expert advice was given to the relic and antique exhibit commit tee by Mrs H Neil historical consultant for Metropolitan Tor onto and surrounding regions when the committee met at New market July 26 Mrs Neil was most enthusiastic and will help set up this display to be- shown in the library from Fall into Heavenly rest All lighting fixtures such as rush and grease lamps and can dleholders which could be used to show the evolution of lighting are being anxiously sought also old deeds documents small books letters before postage stamps old glass and china small pieces
