have Mc Clelland and Stewart Ltd publish the book Mr reported the pub lishers said the book would con tain pages of and 16 pag es of pictures For copies the price would be The cost would be for copies These figures include the draw ings and engravings of the end papers which would be old and present day maps of the town The printing of these end papers would cost for by the publishing firm Mr Knapton ex plained The printing job could be done locally He added that McClelland and Stewart had recommended 5000 of these end papers be ordered so that 2000 could be used in the books and the remaining maps sold during the Centennial cele brations Mr Knapton thought it was too late to attempt such a project and recommended local printing of only the number of end papers required for the books The book would sell for a copy said Mr Knapton The book store retains per cent for com mission so that from each sale would come to the town That would mean that if all cop ies were sold the project would only cost the taxpayers 700 for the publication of the towns his tory Other arrangements might be possible he added For exam ple if one book store were given exclusive rights to sell the book locally it might be possible to cut the commission to 25 per cent I am prepared to introduce a resolution at the next meeting re commending that the town have McClelland and Stewart Ltd publish the book I am not cer tain whether we should order or 2000 copies Knapton said The Common Isabel JULY AND A SHOWER Have you ever considered the month of July just what its Round resounded to the hum kind of growth that of a nation and here July is rich in birthdays To Canadians July does or should mean something tremen dous It means that though young we have obtained our ma- We have a voice that when raised can be heard in the Commonwealth in the United Nations and in world affairs It is rather awesome to think that each one of us bears the title Ca nadian Citiren and is responsible for that voice To put it in the vernacular its up to us whether that voice be strong to uphold all good causes or weak and vacillat ing for fear of offence Not one of us can hide behind the fact that we are only one Even a million is made up of ones and as such is important We must make our one stand for something Then our neighbors to the south celebrate on July They make more fuss about it than we do about July and although they may not love their country any more than we do yet far more than Canadians they make their pride and loyalty known Al though older than Canada the United States is still a young country but its voice is heard ov er all the world Sometimes we wish it was not quite so loud and self assured LOte all young and sometimes older people and nations it makes mistakes yet like the Common wealth it stands firm on the principle of equal opportunity for all men Both nations are found ed on the deep conviction that Right is Might France on July celebrates the fall of the meaning But I suppose that un derneath the tumult and the in opening the gifts and her occupation intrigued me as it did many others She had an alumin um pie plate turned upside down and in it she was making holes Into these holes went the ends of ribbon rosettes from the gifts and these ends were fastened with scotch tape As rosette after ro sette was added it began to look like a hat And that is what it turned out to be With ribbons added to the holes in it it was placed on Frances head and was very effective as she rose to thank the guests She spoke feelingly of the plea sure the shower had given her and of her appreciation of the lovely gifts She extended a cor dial invitation to those present to visit her after her wedding in August when she and her hus band will make their home in
