parties concerned have not been apprehended lets hope that they soon will be and dealt with severely There are certain elements who do not respect wildlife and what some people do to preserve the wildlife in this great land There are those who hunt out of season poach spear fish which go up stream to spawn Generally they break and flaunt every law gov erning wildlife in the province And when they get caught and they will eventually they seem to lose the smugness when they face a judge- It is my opinion that the part ies responsible for the slaying of the Canada goose were well a- of the serious offence they were committing at the time Guilt showed when a neighbor appeared on the scene they beat a hasty retreat Fortunately the license number of the vehicle in which they were getting away for the time being was taken This spring I had the opportun ity of visiting a reserve near illia where a good many Indian friends of mine live I questioned some of them to extent on game laws and what effect the provincial game laws have on the resident of a reserve Their ver sion is that there are no laws for bidding them to shoot snare spear or take fish or game by any means at their disposal To me this seems a bit odd Why should certain people have the privilege of taking fish and game whenever they choose and by whatever methods available For instance lets say a pike is going upstream to spawn Is it legal to spear that fish on a re serve if you happen to be a re sident regardless of whether are an Indian with reserve rights or not The fish will have to be detoured away from the reserve waters if they want to spawn and live to return to lakes or rivers Illegal fishing or hunting is the sign of a very poor sportsman as far as I am concerned Lets not be poor sports Lets enjoy the wealth of game and fishing in this great province by being sports and acting like sports Fisherman Page 3 The Newmarket Era and Express Thursday May 195 WINS AWARD Among the prize
