With the team spirit coach Ron and maestro Simmons have built up in the club the should go all the way However we imag ine that if the have to start knocking off the miles to the gas companies arc emblematic of North York bantam supremacy Now for a little spring sunshine First call has gone out for town Softball league entries It looks like a tenteam setup this semes ter Gentlemen of the jury when considering rules and regulations lets remember to keep it a play for fun league It was that last year and everybody had a great time The minute you start lay ing down hard and fast rules you force dubs to fold Everybody that wants to play should be given that opportunity The main idea of a town league as we see it Is to give everybody regardless of skill a hance to get out and scamper around the ball diamond Let us again make this the objective and the first character that gets real serious send him on his way to join the International league or the ma jors The league meeting comes up in the next couple of weeks Speaking about meetings Art King Ken Hodgins Harry Laven der and company apparently havent fired the opening gun for a Lake S m c softball league convention No doubt this im portant affair will be on the docket right smartly It seems to me it usually brightens up the early spring picture around the end of April The North York minor baseball league meeting is scheduled for Aurora May Item one on the agenda will be to consider ways and means to increase interest in baseball One tried and proven way to do this is get a strong age league percolating With this objective in mind every community in North York and surrounding territory will be ask ed to come in with a peewee team Two suggestions have been put forth as to how to operate the league without getting involved in a lot of travelling First the closest teams could play home and home sets of games and the second worth considering would be to stage several major tourna ments open to all North York teams Said tourneys could be held throughout the season at sites selected by league officials Anyhow just bring along any suggestions on the subject you have tucked away in your bon net Theyll be as welcome as the flowers in May at the May ga thering Naturally along with a series the league is still looking for bantam midget juvenile and junior entries Get them in early so we can get cracking Its still a wee bit dampish for Matt Walsh and his eager young lacrosse hopefuls to move out doors to the Millard Ave west bowl Matt informs us that this is going to be another big lacrosse year locally The opening gun in the program will be fired this weekend when Matt convenes a school What do young people want to do Well the YMYW question naire passed amongst the prob able participants to years of age brought to light some in teresting facts and figures First it seemed that just about everybody was interested in dancing Secondly that a goodly number favored discussion groups Our rest centered around the athletic- side of the questionnaire It was an eyeop ener to us the number of high school interested in basket ball howling badminton floor hockey table tennis tennis golf archery gymnastics and track and field It seemed that just about everyone who filled out the questionnaire wanted to do some thing to keep in shape In our travels along the sport trail we have run across a num ber interested in formation of a local track and field club The answers received on the questionnaire would indicate it wouldnt take too much of a push to get club rolling How do you feel about it Do you want to do some leaping and loping this spring and summer Give us a shout if youre interested Peanut The young bowlers performing in the Recreation Commission sponsored Peanut bowling league
