gone to con cert with six enthusiastic young folk and three grownups yourself and felt yourself a child again That Hilda eltys and my on the Hilda had taken Justin Mary McMorrow and Henrietta to Toronto at noon and Archie and acting grandparents took and Kevin the after noon If you are like mo you find Christmas time a time of pic tures As we sped along in the bus we looked at a aeries of Christmas cards framed by our bus windows Here was a farm house nestling among snow- sprinkled spruce and pine here would be a home with a Christ mas tree glittering in the win dow here going up the side of a house were the eight reindeer being urged on by Santa Claus so lifelike one expected to hear his voice calling to Comet and Vixen and the others Too in a vacant lot we saw a huge creche a stable with the virgin mother the blessed Child Joseph the shepherds and- animals It was so surpris ingly lifelike and lit up In the dusk it carried us back to the Holy Night when sang and God gave His great gift to the world We arrived at Eat ons College St store just in time to meet Hilda and her party and adjourn for dinner When the nine of us streamed I in the head waiter looked rather I aghast for the place was crowd- but knowing Hilda he asked her if we were all her students and on her answering yes for most of us were he finally got us safely shepherded to two tables together and we had a hilarious dinner Later before going to Hall we looked at Eatons windows but I am go ing to write of those by and by Getting to Hall we had splendid seats Hilda had man aged to get the centre third row so all we little people could see splendidly And what a thing it is to see musicians like the To ronto Symphony let themselves go and have as much fun as their audience I never could have imagined what I saw when Sir Ernest McMillan appeared in old blue jeans and presented himself before an examiner to try an ex amination He parked his gum under the piano demanded to know what the metronome was and proceeded to play a scale and a sonatina in a manner that I am sure would have given the hardiest examiner heart failure Mr Grube whom we heard here with the Quartette is a born comedian and did wonderful dances with one or two of the orchestra number Mrs Whitehead- told of the forming of an orchestra in a small She spoke of etch section and the named they gave some ex amples of what they could Donha whom we heard here appeared as wings and halo as tor ward her harp 7 Mrs Whitehead it better to have a conductor If you could get one but theyd try without one trie result it eider imagined than described Than Sir Ernest came in in -cap- and gown and announced that John Sebastian is Back He told us that he thought Back should be sort 6f smartened arid pro posed overlaying one of his pre ludes with a modern composition the name of which he announced in German said he the orchestra will play the prelude as written which they did magnificently Then he told the strings to play it again while the brass would play the other piece which when translated turned cut to be Good Night Irene Good Night You can imagine the result the brass blared out that woefully monotonous Irene and the strings totally submerged- stuck to the prelude It about finish ed the audience If to laugh is to grow fat the audience that night must have put on pounds There was a fine display of juggling which made us that SHARON The Women Association the United church West group will hold the regular meeting at the Hall on Jan at 10130 to quilt All the ladles aw asked to be present and thing Union church Then there was The Twelve Days of Christmas sung by Eric baritone He sang it delightfully but it was his en core that captivated his audience He began on the first day of Christmas my trije love sent to me Sir Ernest in a pear tree and so on through the days till he had the whole orchestra in It was fun- Do you like carols If like them as we do then you would have the thrill we had when with the gentlemen and boys of St Simons choir lead ing we sang them and I think that the angels who at Christmas hover near earth in their work of love must have felt that here were some ROUNDUP Here we are back again after a wonderful vacation We hope that you had as enjoyable a Christmas arid New as we did Roundabout we arrived back at school we noticed a new face in the halls We discovered that this was Mr Carroll a new mem ber of the staff who is replacing Mr Harlow The first meeting of the Drama Society was held after school hours Almost all the cast for The Skin of Our Teeth has been chosen and Everyman is to get under way immediately After much discussion it was de cided that the school is capable of providing casts for both plays each of which will do a good job Almost as bad as writing the examinations is getting them back That is what we have to go through for the next week or so Sometimes we are disap pointed and sometimes surprised You know even though we dread the thought of getting those pa pers back we are quick to teachers who havent our papers marked I if we realize that all during holidays while wo are having fun the teachers spend most of their time marking pap ers and they have a lot of them For just one instance one of the teachers had 0 fifth form papers to mark besides all the papers from the rest of the forms- irf Donna Ball FREE
