for to Community bazaar she had two main reasons for the action First she was interested in providing an opportunity for local craft en thusiasts to display their work manship Second she realized that there are many smaller groups in the community who are unable to handle a bazaar on their own Combining their tal ents they could produce a worth while show The success of the past Com munity bazaars has proven that Mrs Mitchells ideas were sound ones Handcraft people in the district who weave do leather work silver or pewter work or any of a variety of other crafts have welcomed this opportunity to acquaint the public with their skills Perhaps they do not sell their woven place mats at the bazaar But because they were displayed the remembers them when some months later she is purchasing a to dress up and if we can by the addition of a mask add a touch of mystery we find a cer tain amount of satisfaction It is odd too how a small mask can effectively disguise a person How much more so when we face a medley of hideous grotesque or comic characters at a Hallow een party I had accepted an invitation to the school Hallow een party with pleasure but when I found that I with Mrs C Wood and Mrs Greenwood was to judge the costumes of the children my joy turned to woe for what is harder than to dis appoint a child and a great many children were bound to be dis appointed It was a real pleasure how ever to see all the children march past Fairies skeletons tramps witches a leopard cow boys mice rabbits and what have you One of our chief troubles was to get the right number of girls and boys for boys were dressed as girls and girls as boys and wed only draw one out of line to find we had made a mistake There was one real scarlet clad devil complete with horns and tail whom we were sure was a boy only to find a girl hidden within There was a game for the old folk to pin a tail on a black cat This took place in Mrs Youngs room In Miss room there was a bazaar and many pretty useful articles found a ready sale The receipts were to be divided between the Red Cross and the piano they hope to buy for their room Most boun teous and delicious refreshments brought the party to a close Day Service What a host of memories such a service stirs within we people who remember the first Armis tice Day The mixture of joy and sorrow joy that the war was over sorrow for those who for Our Tomorrow gave their To day the unseen army who walked beside our returning men It all came back as I watched the flag ceremony and listened to the hymns which are a part of our heritage of heroism Is there anyone who can sing or listen to Oh Valiant Hearts whose very soul isnt wrung with a strange mixture of grief and The Newmarket Era and Express Thursday Nov Page News of the I News for this through the hell which is war spoke from souls and hearts fired by the flames of war Too often we forget that to us was thrown from failing hands the torch We too often forget in the chaos of modern life that there are those among us who on the field of battle caught and carried that torch and still here among us despite the scars that must always remain from their experience still carry it I must speak of the offertory played by Mrs Cane the Mill by Schubert It was very beautiful and fitted in with the spirit of the day as did the fine solo by Ken Morton and the an them with Gladys Arnold felt it was sepa rate from the board and cling ing to it were the poppies of re membrance We sang of the Lands and two children Louise Walker and Verna Sheri dan gave two appropriate poems Mr Wood beside his regular les son to the children told them something of what it means to live in a land like Canada com pared to what it might have been had there been no valiant hearts to go out and give
