4 w Oct Of Cents and Steel PIm To Start Now Auroras New Disposal Plant Aurora District Disappointment for Aurora leaders came on this week with postponement six months on the start of an to Aurora sewage plant The sewage odors about which north end residents have complained were to have eliminated by July by the new disposal plant The construction of the new addition cannot start this fall only one tender was at hand on Monday Nine firms had been estimating on the job- As a result council members took the advice of consulting en gineer Don and cancel led the call for the present In midDecember the job will be readvertised and tenders in for January 20 That will place the effective completion of the plant at the end of instead of October estimates to months work The reason there were no ten- this week lies in the short ages of both cement and steel The cement shortage has been building up through the summer and fall season According to Mr the steel for rein forcing is at present on a four- months delivery basis for Cana dian steel and six weeks if pre miumprice US steel is used Aurora council decided to re turn the one bid received from a Hamilton firm unopened with advice that the construction bids will be called again later in the year Regardless of the price I do not think there should be any award under the circumstan ces Mr advised The reason is that in the past month even more in the past two weeks the situation of supply of cement and steel has very much wors ened Members of the council obeyed the induction of Mayor Dr Hen derson to not let our disappoint ment run away with this but to postpone it for a month and see if we cannot get more bids There was a discussion regarding the best lime of year to ask again for bids A motion by Council lors and Corbett that the call for tenders be left until Jan uary was voted down a resolu tion by Councillor Bailey and Deputyreeve Jones was I- J WILLIS Druggist St Aurora The Drug Store -News- Agent for industrial develop ments The future industrial de velopment must go with new subdivision growth paralleling the construction of residential homes Assessment value for commercial or industrialused land must equal the assessment on new subdivision homes as a part of Aurora councils policy Two weeks ago the spokes man for a proposed subdivision asked that the town as a whole share in the cost of services such as a trunk sewer and trunk wa ter mains to an industry Such services are included in the town enforced subdividers agreement At the time arguments were put forward that Aurora should he willing to go part in paying the cost of services for any such Industrial plant or commercial building Most of the council members at that meeting agreed that it was not fair for the sub- divider to pay through local im provement taxation the full cost of servicing an industry which will help balance the towns as sessment structure The matter was referred to a secret meeting of Aurora council in committee of the whole last Wednesday for discussion No thing is known by the public about contrary reasons but the end result opposing the sugges tion was again in front of this weeks public meeting
