would like to live over That bchu impos sible the next best thing is to place them in memorys store house and bring the memories back from time to lime One of my moments that will live so enshrined came Sunday morning Nov 21 when the full beauty of the madeover inter ior of Trinity United church Newmarket hurst on my de lighted eyes I have always deeply resented having to sit and gaze at organ pipes Maybe my thinking doesnt appeal to everyone hut I at any rate like to see some concrete symbols of the faith I profess before me So when I saw the cross the symbol of our salvation against its lovely background of heaven ly blue while beneath it the beautiful communion table brought vividly to mind the last supper I felt a great surge of contentment Here was a church home where I could be at home Pulpit lectern font choir stalls chairs coloring and car- pot gave a sense of completeness a feeling that we were giving our best to the Even the windows always beautiful gained new beauty in their tur quoise setting Nearly a thous and people attended the morn ing service and a largo congrega tion at the evening one Mr did wonders with the organ which is giving tem porary service and much appre ciated too and the choir render ed the anthem House very pleasingly The Junior choirs sang the anthem Rejoice the Lord is King and they were a joy to listen to and to look at The solo was taken by young Richard Graham Is there any- thing that reaches right down into ones heart like a boys voice The morning solo was ren dered by Alma Stephens Beautiful Upon the Mountains Sfld it was sung with a beauty of tone and expression that will linger long in peoples memories The dedication service was very solemn with and people reading Mr Aiken thanked everyone who had colli to the- of the church and also to members of the building committee who certainly de served a special thank you for their magnificent work The sermon was delivered by the moderator Right Reverend George and lie spoke on Putting Up With The Church He said he could never get over marvelling at the in credibility of the church the stability of Peter and the other apostles and disciples after the coming of Hie Holy Ghost upon them They who when Jesus chose them were unlearned men be came gifted in speech anil fear less to proclaim their lord and Master as Saviour of the world Persecutions only hardened the moral of these pillars of the early church arid SO it has been down ages mid toil and tribulations the church has withstood every malign influ ence At the evening service Dr was the speaker and gave a most inspiring sermon on Re- cause We Relieve and Therefore Speak Dr said that everything depends on a man Communities or nations depend on the of their citizens They can rise no higher than those beliefs Hit ler and Stalin inculcated their beliefs in the youth of the na tions they ruled we too will know the results of these beliefs and I think that the upsurge of religion which Is apparent today is all partly due to the recoil from the godless brutality of those leaders Dr said that Christian ity is the only religion which can be universal It is entirely im possible for the or Buddhism or ism to be universal but Christ ianity fits the spiritual and tem poral needs of any people and that is why has lived and flourished in the midst of unbe lievable persecution and terror Our belief if it is real cannot be moved Gladys Arnold was soloist at the evening service and sang sweetly Green Pastures and Ihe choir sang the anthem Sing lo the Lord a Joyful Song At the conclusion of the ser vice Dr showed us pic tures the World Council of Churches held at III They were quite wonderful pic tures showing as they did the incredible scope of the gathering where people of every race took part The form of service might dif fer but their fundamental belief In Jesus as the hope of the world united them In a bond of fellow ship stronger than race or su perficial differences My words are only a skeleton which Dr clothed with the magic of words It was a wonderful close to a wonderful day NEWS ROUNDUP News and Views on Newmarket High School Sports Social Activities Pen Portraits Edited by
