with two potted plants by the Thomson family hand towels and an angel food birthday cake Mechanic Earned Wood coowner of Fleet wood Motors received third de gree burns to his left hand while working with an acetylene torch last Friday afternoon The welder exploded twice in succes sion blowing off the cap and causing flames to mount to the ceiling of the garage Mr Wood the mechanic said he was about to shut off the machine as it exploded It was believed im perfect fittings caused the acci dent The welder was destroy ed When flames rose the Aurora fire department was summoned but the fire was under control by the time It arrived The welder was hauled out doors as soon as possible Only the window sill was scorched as Arthur Fleet had beaten out the fire with a rag Mr Wood will be unable Hears Norn The first public meeting of the King branch of the Federation of Agriculture In the New Year was held at town hall last Wednesday Feb with attending It was con vened by Wilfred Clarence McGuire a director of the County Branch was chairman In the absence of president Frank Mr McGuire has a wide connection with federation work and his experience proved helpful In the question and answer forum A sound film on conservation was provided Cecil The speaker of the evening was Norman farm commentator of the Comrade Walker accepted his vows as president of King legion branch when the installa tion ceremonies were conducted for officials by zone commander Harold Eaton Newmarket on Wednesday night Feb in the partly completed club house Dew The occasion gave everyone an opportunity is required to pay for the completion The choral concert presented by the Ontario Hydro Singers 38 voices won applause by an appreciative audience in King last Thursday night at the United church The choir was sponsored by King City club and it was the first effort of this type by the new club The Hydro club choir was di rected by an English conductor John Doorman with piano ac companiments by Heard organist and choir director of Oak United church Toronto The group linden Lee Morn ing and Land of Hope and Glory brought out contrasts Whereer You Walk had an ef fective sustained cadence The womens quartette sang Bird Songs at Eventide and ll in the Bud The male quartet sang Passing By and Pass By Your Window and the wo mens chorus Christopher Ro bin is Saying His Prayers and Brahms Lullaby made a no ticeable impression on the audi ence The finale by the choir in Evening Prayer from Hansel and and The Long Day Closes demonstrated the full effect of blended voices in thoughtful interpretation Mrs Joyce Wiltshire English soloist sang My Beloved Dad dy and Because Mr Ed Valiant the bass soloist was well received Mr Ivan a of the gave a concert rendition of classical instrumen- lal selections appearing twice on the program He given hearty applause for an exhibi tion of his musical ability J was master of monies for the choir and ex plained that the choir had turf but nine
