Headquarters Continued from Page 11 Besides the stimulating mem ory of the pioneering Charles we shall recall also that not far from our location there was in past years the office and publishing quarters of a very successful Aurora weekly news paper called The Aurora with its accompanying headline which said Let There Be Light Light in hidden places Under the able editorship of the A Stevenson the lively Aurora played an effective part in the life of Aurora over a period of many years Its advertising pages pro vide proof of the confidence placed in it by local merchants while its news and editorial col umns were bright breezy and original ana completely free from idiosyncrasies and brass hat quirks and capers It is exceedingly pleasant to be able to record that a daughter of the proprietor of the Au rora Dr Alberta M Cross of Toronto celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of her wed ding on September and a son A birthday party luncheon was held on Sept for Mrs Mary Ida Cook in honor of her I Mr Ashton G Stevenson who BLUE THE HUE Come in and see Morrisons Ex hibition Blue suits the popular color for this fall Main St Newmarket phone birthday at the home of her son Earl achieved wide fame in the United States for his inventions for linotype and ma chines still survive their versa tile father a popular Aurora figure some CO years ago It has been our own personal pleasure to receive from Dr Cross and Mr Ashton Stevenson very encouraging letters con cerning our writings here in Aurora What We Stand For Aurora News Page will he as much a local weekly newspaper as its predecessor the Au rora Through its ex istence we shall contribute to local payments of rent and taxes Aurora News Page will he con cerned exclusively with Aurora What stand for is the of and comment directly concerned with local ac tivities Since the institution of Aurora Page as part of the and Express sales of the paper have been increasing week by week Our Aurora mailing list has been considerably increased while our sales at newsstands in Aurora have greatly advanc ed These advances have been made during the summer season when all newspaper circulation falls off It is not our practice to use big startling headlines g headlines take up newspaper space without giving any useful service to readers What we ate concerned with is nevs and opinion on The Kra and Express has an audited circula tion of 3500 paidinadvance subscribers and sales beyond that subscription list require that we print over copies of the paper each week No other weekly newspaper in North York can claim to have such a wide public confidence A Personal Note It is not often nor is it desir able that we have the opportun ity of saying what we want to say now But we feel we would like to say that under the man agement of the Era and Express we have personally enjoyed as much freedom on Aurora News Page as though it were our own publication The managing editor of the Era and Express John A Meyer has by the number of high awards he has won in Canadian newspaper competitions over the past few years proved himself as one of Canadas topranking newspaper editors He has achieved these successes without fuss or personal advertisement for he is an extremely modest man a rather rare quality in the newspaper world especially among editors However it is due to Mr Meyer to say that without his ac cord we could not have enjoyed the editorial freedom which has been ours since the month of April and which has al lowed us In the phrase of a fa mous British editor to paint the thing as we see it in other words to describe events here in Aurora as faithfully as we un derstand That is the way which ve pro pose to continue our work on Aurora News Page We believe we should tell our readers what they ought to know without fear or favor We fear nobody and will favor nobody But we shall strive always lo be fair and hon est in any criticisms have to make That ve think is a good yardstick for anyone lo follow We shall shortly move our typewriter lo Hall street which will he our head quarters Charles gave this town its name Wo shall do our best lo provide an Aurora News Page
