in Newmarket- last night in a ceremony in which partici pated fellow Newmarket clergy men and ministers from out of town Rev of Eg- United church preyed and inducted Mr Aiken Rev Dr A Little editor of Sunday School publications preached the sermon Rev West United church read the scripture and Rev Newmarket Jed in prayer Rev Gordon Porter of St Pauls Avenue Road United church presented the minister VMn clerk of session supported the minister represent ing the session or Trinity church Mr Aiken was escorted to the pulpit by Mr Porter and pro nounced the benediction During the induction service the choir sang the anthem Con sider and Hear Me Receiving at the reception which followed the induction were Mr Sovair clerk of ses sion and Mrs Mrs- W Stephens president of the and Mr Stephens Dr superintendent of the Sunday School and Mrs and Rev Gordon Porter chairman of the induction com mittee of Toronto Centre Presby tery A social hour was conducted by the ladies of the Womans Association and afterwards Mr Bovair assumed the chair and addresses of welcome made by Mrs W Stephens Dr Noble Rev J Rhodes president of the Ministerial Association Rev reckon of the Christian Baptist church Mr ment Bell Telephone workers The first step towards having a swimming pool for Newmarket was taken Monday night at the first meeting of the year of the Newmarket Lions club The civic improvement committee of the club was appointed to investigate cost and methods of construc tion and bring in a report to the club as soon as possible The committee is under the chairmanship of Chas Boyd President Jas Walker start ing his term last Monday said that the club should have a major project and urged that the swimming pool be considered There was enthusiastic agree ment from the club and the civic improvement committee was di rected to assemble the necessary facts and figures It is not our intention to make this a closed project said j Mr Walker The swimming pool is a community need and it and hydro employee Wendell J should be a community project Elmer the Safety Elephant has become a friend of City Police and PC William Aurora Police The Aurora school children as the Aurora merchants who bad not exhibited previously It was decided to ask for the applications in writing so that a definite plan can be drawn up for the fair A meeting of the Trade Fair committee will be held shortly so that those desir ing space are requested to get their applications in im mediately Councillor Jos Dales brought a recorder to the Newmar ket council meeting on Monday night and members eyed the gadget somewhat apprehensive ly until Mr Dales explained that he had brought it along because he thought council members might like to hear how their voices sounded He added that the record would be destroyed at the end of the meeting I With these assurances council got down to business while the recorded hummed softly in the background After council adjourned Mr Dales played back portions of A meeting was held last night at Aurora legion hall to honor on his recent election to the presidency Ontario com mand of the Canadian Legion Among those who attended were the district commander Bert scheduled in the next couple of weeks The first is the in the Newmar ket arena of the prize- winning Accordion band Fri day night and the second event is Hie old time dance and hocdown on September in the newly- paved market square Proceeds front both events are for the swimming pool fund Enthusiasm for the swimming pool has increased since the com mittee of Charles VanZant Al- George report and Ken undertook the floodlight campaign in the fair grounds That committee published an artists sketch of the possibilities to be found at the fair grounds and included was a swimming pool The fact that after earlier unsuccessful tries a new group was succeeding in its efforts to revitalize the fairground a community recreation centre has opened the eyes of the public to what can be accomplished if the workers are willing And while the swimming pool neednt nee- go into the fair ground the fact remains that the vision of an all round recreation park has encouraged townwide interest The Lions had earlier been ap proached by interested individ uals to undertake the swimming pool campaign and in his open ing address Mr Walker lodged that provision of a swim ming pool for Newmarket was a project close to his heart and that he had looked forward to the presidency of the club with that one project in mind We hope that in preparing the facts upon which to base a swimming pool campaign the public will assist us with any suggestions and constructive criticisms they may think help- ful Such suggestions should be made to Mr Boyd as chairman of the fact- inch said Mr Walker He said that when the I Telephone rates in Newmarket at the regular meeting on Monday night The decision followed notice to council of the application for the rate increase A I PAY GRANT Newmarket town council paid the annual town grant of 1000 to the York County Hospital at Its regular meeting on Monday night established for the purpose of studying and reporting upon the relationship between the two levels of
