The proposal for a complete reassessment of the township of North has not been acted upon by the township council yet The inaugural meet ing of the council was held Tuesday afternoon at Bel- haven of Councillor Charles Richardson Before the township election at the end of November a large number of assessment appeals were submitted to the court of revision Most of the appellants complained not of their own high assessments but of the low valuation set on other properties and the inequalities of North assessments If Grimsby ex pert on assessments and valua tions was employed tor a week during December to review the appeals Last week at another court of revision sitting he re ported that the township assess ments were irregular He said that it would be difficult tu equalize the appeals on the basis of tho existing assessment because valuations were so irreg ular A price was submitted by Mr to the council for the task of reassessing the whole town ship with strict adherence to tho Assessment Act He described his system of using information charts for each property in the municipality so that the council in future could back up their assessments in court with more than adequate information The only other submission was from James Clark a resident of the township who said that he would follow all stipulations of the act which he said was all that would be necessary Mr Clark said that he would prefer that a second assessor be hired chosen with the help of council to assess the farm prop erties There are assessments at the present time In that num ber there are 342 farm proper ties of ten acres and up with buildings on them A largo number of assessed properties are owned by summer residents It is believed that there are many properties which have nev er been
