Free Lorax screening in Coronation Park Oakville's Ward 2 councillors are inviting residents to join them in watching Dr. Seuss' The Lorax at Coronation Park on Saturday, July 28. The free movie event, presented in association with Encore Cinemas, will feature a number of familyfriendly activities and give residents the opportunity to support Oakville's annual Terry Fox Run. "Terry Fox would have celebrated his 54th birthday on July 28," said Ward 2 Town Councillor and Chair of the Oakville Terry Fox Run Pam Damoff. "(Ward 2 Town and Regional Councillor Cathy Duddeck) and I are involved in organizing the local event. We hope people will support the run while enjoying a night with their families." Representatives from the Oakville Terry Fox Run will be on site with information about the event and special `In Memory' and `In Honour' signs, available for purchase for $5. All event proceeds will support the run. Samples of T-shirts for this year's Oakville Terry Fox Run will be available and Licks, Bronte Village will be selling hotdogs in support. Encore Cinemas will be providing a bag of popcorn for a $1 donation to the run. "As a company in the business of making movies affordable for families, Encore Cinemas is thrilled to be partnering with the Ward 2 Councillors to show The Lorax in the park," said Ward 5 Town and Regional Councillor and Encore Cinemas CEO Jeff Knoll. "We are also located in Ward 2, so this is a perfect fit for us." Residents are encouraged to bring new or gently used books for Books with No Bounds, a local group started by Oakville teens, Emma and Julia Mogus. The group has been purchasing books for the aboriginal youth of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation Communities of Northern Ontario. The group is hoping to raise awareness about their efforts towards literacy improvement and is inviting residents to `like' their page on Facebook. Residents are also being encouraged to leave their cars at home for this event. Swag bags filled with coupons and prizes will be given to the first 100 people who walk, bike or take Oakville Transit to attend the event. Gears Oakville will provide free, secure bike valet parking. Residents can make their way to the park via Oakville Transit's Route 14 or Route 2. Route 14 starts at the Oakville GO Station and departs at 25 minutes and 55 minutes past the hour. Route 2 starts at the Bronte GO Station and departs at 35 minutes past the hour. For more information on transit times, visit www.oakvilletransit.ca and use the online Trip Planner. "We are blessed with the perfect venue at Coronation Park for this type of event," said Duddeck. "It will be pretty special when the sun goes down to see a movie showing on the big screen. I can't wait." The event begins at 7 p.m. with face painting. The Town of Oakville will be on site with information on the Canopy Club, the Emerald Ash Borer, Oakville Transit and more. Free water bottle refills will be available from one of the Town's water refill stations. 3 · Friday, July 20, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com BUY 1 PAIR AND FREE ate n e v Reju your sole Some conditions apply. 2nd pair is of equal or lesser value.
