Thieves are on a roll with stolen toilet paper By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Halton police are looking for the suspect(s) who stole a truckload of toilet paper from the property of trucking logistics company, Lemko Trans Ltd., at 2430 Royal Windsor Dr., early Wednesday morning. Police said the suspect(s) scaled the fence, broke into a tractor-trailer and then drove the truck and its cargo out of the yard. While toilet paper may seem like an odd thing to steal, police said this type of product is more valuable to thieves than many would expect. "That kind of common household product is pretty easy for them to get rid of," said Detective Sergeant Mark Underwood, of the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau. "Everybody wants it, everybody needs it," said the detective. Police reported this is the third incident to take place at truck yards in Oakville's east end in less than a month. On June 25, suspects assaulted and bound a security guard at a truck yard on Winston Park Drive and then stole a truckload of new automobile tires valued at approximately $80,000. Another incident took place July 4, when thieves scaled the fence of another truck yard in the area, but, in this case, were frightened off by security. Police suspect the incidents may be connected. "This type of cargo load theft usually takes place in spurts when you have the same crew that comes into your area and does a bunch of jobs all in one go," said Underwood. The detective said these types of criminals sometimes target a specific load, but other times simply walk onto the truck yard and open numerous trailers to see if there is anything worth stealing.
