Diverting water from a downspout into a rain barrel lets you capture rain water and store it for future use to water gardens and container plants. Halton residents purchased nearly 3,200 rain barrels through this year's truckload sales. More than 16,500 rain barrels have been purchased since the program began in 2009 which has the Gary Carr potential to save 3.3 million litres each time all 16,500 rain barrels are used.
