Artscene 17 · Wednesday, July 11, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Musician releases CD at concert Oakville's John Campbell spent the night performing soulful renditions of some classic music at his recent CD release concert. The singer and pianist was at Lola Lounge last month with a full house of supporters performing music from his album Soul Impressions. The CD is a compilation of ageless tracks done in a soulful jazz style. The music includes songs such as Phil Collins' In the Air Tonight and Bob Marley's Waiting in Vain. Campbell is not new to the spotlight. In 2008, he and his family were featured in a Campbell Soup commercial and print ad campaign. He was also part of the original cast of Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God, a play that won the Governor General's award. Furthermore, Campbell has performed with the Manitoba Theatre Company and theatre Aquarius. He's also appeared on Treehouse TV's Four Square as one of the primary cast members. Soul Impressions is a culmination of the years he has spent playing piano and singing in clubs, hotels and restaurants in Toronto. The CD is available at www. johncampbellmusic.ca. With exhibit, artist takes item off `bucket list' Oakville artist Kamil Swiatek has taken a lot of time and effort on his art and is now presenting his first ever solo art exhibit. The exhibit, by the way, is item 69 on his bucket list. It opens Friday (July 13) at Sovereign House. "It's been 10 years in the making, and it all seems like a dream," the 28-year-old said in a press release. "It's amazing what a person can accomplish when they pour their heart and soul into their passion." Swiatek has been painting since childhood, though he has never shown it publicly. Several years ago, he made a decision to do so while standing atop a mountain in his native Poland. "On the mountaintop, I realized that this is something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life," he said. "Whenever I paint, all time stops and I'm able to dive into my spirit, giving everything I have." The show, titled Tactile Quality, runs the entire weekend (FridaySunday) and ends on Wednesday. Gallery hours on Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday are 1-4 p.m. The Friday opening runs from 7-10:30 p.m. Sovereign House is located at 7 West River St. in Bronte.
