Cycling in Halton map is now online for enthusiasts Halton Region has just released its updated Cycling in Halton map -- at www.halton.ca/cycling. The map offers a bird's eye view of Halton and recommends seven loop rides with suggested routes that include urban areas and nearby scenic rural roads that are suitable for cycling. "We have more than 300 kilometres of Regional roads and we are working to ensure cars and cyclists can share the road," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "That's why Halton has committed to ensuring on-road infrastructure for bicycles during every Regional road reconstruction and widening project, whether it be through a wider curb lane, an on-road bike lane or a partially paved shoulder." Through the release of this map, the Region encourages residents to trade in their vehicles for cycling when it comes to short trips to the grocery store, library or community centre. While the map is complete, the Region has also started putting together its first Active Transportation Master Plan to develop the required strategy, infrastructure, initiatives and programs that will make it easier to walk, bike and roll across Halton. Public input is being sought, and can be offered at www.halton.ca/ activetransportation. The feeling of not being able to breathe is one I will never forget. After being rushed to my hospital here in Oakville I was quickly diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. The disease shut down my kidneys and put me in a coma for 15 days and in the Intensive Care Unit for two months. If it wasn't for the life-saving equipment in our hospital, I would not be here today. Brigitte Elise Photography Each and every year, our hospital needs hundreds of pieces of new equipment that will save lives and improve the lives of all us here in Oakville. Every piece is critical and every piece needs to be funded by our community. It all starts here with your help. Please give generously.
