and commenced to empty it in the direction of the retreating figures One bullet struck Jones in the right forearm and broke it Turning round and Rice fired six or seven shots back into the cab and passing thru his body The shot disabled him and he would have fallen but and Rice chained to him on either side dragged the wounded man along by main force They jumped on the front platform of the car and tried to overpower the mo tor man and secure control of the car which was speeding along at a good rate Stewart however was on the alert He jumped up behind the car pulled off the trolley pole and brought the car to a standstill Then he ran round to the assistance the mo tor man His own revolver was empty he dropped it and grap pled with the desperadoes Rice and were still using their
