Ross Davidson, Lindsay Goaler, Dies in Italy

  The sad news was received in Lindsay a few days age of the death in Italy of Ross Davidson, of Haliburton, a young man who will be remembered here as a goaler in the year Lindsay Midgets played off in the semi-finals of the Junior OHA with Aurora.
  Ross was a very likeable chap friendly and good natured. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Church Bible Class.

Haliburton Boy Killed In Holland

  Haliburton, Feb. 5 (PNS)—Haliburton citizens were shocked on Friday, Feb. 2nd, when word reached the village that Gnr. Ross F. Davidson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Davidson, was killed on active service in Holland on Jan. 29th.
  Gnr. Davidson enlisted with the 45th at Lindsay and has been overseas three years. He was with a 7th Canadian Army Field Regiment.
  Gnr. Ross Davidson was a member of the United Church and was well-known in hockey circles. He spent his boyhood days in Haliburton and was a favorite among the boys at school and in the field of sport. Before enlisting, he was employed at the local post office.
  Besides his father, he is survived by two sisters, Loretta and Bernice of Toronto, and two brothers, Aiken of Toronto, and Cpl. Bernard Davidson, who is in a convalescent hospital in England.
  Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family.

This card is part of a larger collection of World War II personnel clippings. The project began in 1944 at the Lindsay Library. The intent was to gather together as much information as possible on the military record and the service of people from the Town of Lindsay and the County of Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes) who served in the war. To that end, during the years 1944, 1945, and 1946, members of the public donated photographs and updated information about their loved ones. Both library staff and the public saved and donated newspaper clippings. Some of the files contain great amounts of detail, while others have just a name.
