No date [Winter 1944/1945] Dear Friends:-
Well here I am spending a quiet afternoon in my billet and besides catching upon a few domestic duties. I want to try my hand at some correspondence for at this I am always very neglectful. The weather today is just about as perfect as any Canadian should ask for, under the circumstances of course because everything is blanketed with snow and a bright warm sun in a clear sky. It isn't often we get days like this so it would be a treat in any case. Yesterday I received your Christmas parcel in perfect condition and at this point I want to express my most sincere thanks. It is on occasions like this that I fail to find words to express myself so I hope you will be able to read much between the lines. It is just such deeds as yours that makes us realize how much we are missing by being away from our home-town people. I think the reason why your parcel took so long to reach me is that it was addressed to 405 Squadron and I haven't been with the squadron for over a year. Having just completed my third year of overseas service I am expecting and hoping to be repatriated to Canada very soon and it can't come too soon as you can no doubt understand. I certainly don't regret coming over here for it has been a great experience and one that may be of some benefit when I am back on Civic Street. I will bring this note to a close but I want to thank all who contributed towards my parcel and may the very best wishes be with you all for 1945.Thankfully, yours,

- This card is part of a larger collection of World War II personnel clippings. The project began in 1944 at the Lindsay Library. The intent was to gather together as much information as possible on the military record and the service of people from the Town of Lindsay and the County of Victoria (now Kawartha Lakes) who served in the war. To that end, during the years 1944, 1945, and 1946, members of the public donated photographs and updated information about their loved ones. Both library staff and the public saved and donated newspaper clippings. Some of the files contain great amounts of detail, while others have just a name.
