The redevelopment of Bronte Village Mall has been settled between the Town of Oakville and Goldmanco Inc. The settlement, announced yesterday (Tuesday) earned the approval of the Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) last week. Now, the Toronto-based retail development company can move forward on plans to revitalize the west-end mall. "With the OMB appeal now resolved, it provides Goldmanco Incorporated permission to revitalize this site -- an important step forward for everyone," said Mayor Rob Burton in a news release. "This is an opportunity to see the mall Bronte Village Mall is ready to be revitalized site redeveloped, adding more value and vitality to the Bronte area." Plans call for a 14-storey building along Bronte Road and a 10-storey building in the interior of the property. Both buildings will be terraced towards Sovereign Street. Ground-floor retail will be allowed in each building, opening the door to new commercial uses fronting onto Bronte Road. Additional commercial uses would front onto Lakeshore Road and a Town-owned market square. In sync with the Town's Livable Oakville Plan, the mall redevelopment will be done in phases -- potentially over the next 20 years due to current long-term leases, stated the release. The first phase is expected to begin on the property's west side and will include mixed uses while the existing leases are in effect. The settlement also calls for early improvements to the property that fronts onto Lakeshore Road and Jones Street. In the longer term, commercial uses on the property's east end will relocate to Lakeshore Road adjacent to the urban square. According to the release, townhouses would replace the existing commercial buildings on Sovereign Street. 7 · Wednesday, June 27, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com A food store will remain on site. Other settlement highlights include: · a Town-owned market square along Lakeshore Road and a small park along Sovereign Street · connections through the site, an internal driveway and a publicly-owned corridor · terraces and courtyards along Sovereign Street, respecting homes on the north side · implementing the policies and objectives of the Livable Oakville Plan. Children must be taught it's wrong Continued from page 6 no one is watching. As a society, we can no longer turn a blindeye. We can no longer minimize bullying as `kids being kids.' It has gone well beyond that point. No one is immune to bullying. All individuals are capable of bullying -- children bully children, adults bully adults, adults bully children, and children bully adults. At any point, anyone can be a participant in the bullying cycle. Parents, educators, and all adults have something to learn from this video and ought to use this as a teachable moment for the children in their lives. Adults must teach children bullying of any form is unacceptable, will not be accepted, and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and mutual respect. Dr. Gail Saltz, psychiatrist and NBC's Today contributor said, "I think what's wrong with kids today, is adults today. We are not setting a standard or example of the importance of cultural rules, that you treat each other with decency and respect. That cruelty is wrong and punishable."
