Police warn homeowners to be vigilant By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Halton police are warning residents to be vigilant in the wake of a series of break-ins at homes in Clearview, Glen Abbey and Palermo. Police said about a dozen break-ins have occurred in these neighbourhoods since the beginning of the year -- with nearly half of those in June alone. Police report the suspects work in groups 3 · Wednesday, June 27, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Inside Opinion............................................6 Artscene.........................................17 Sports.............................................18 Classified........................................21 Full Delivery: Real Estate, Sport Chek, City Parent, alvtion Army, DDRUS Holdings, Vitamin Store, 2-4-1 Pizza, HYSK Atmosphere, Rona, Holland Park Garden, Shopping News, XS Cargo, Home Depot, Bouclair, Sheridan Nurseries of two or four. They watch homes and when the owner leaves, ring the doorbell several times to ensure no one is there before forcing open the front door. The break-ins occur during daytime hours, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., when many people are at work. Once inside the home, police say the suspects ransack the place, stealing jewelry, small electronics and cash. Residents are asked to pay special attention to suspicious vehicles or people in their neighbourhood, get a description and immediately report their observations to the police. Police are also encouraging homeowners to visit www.haltonpolice.ca for tips related to crime prevention and home security.
